Title: Campus Minister for Mission and Ministry
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Reports To: Chaplain
Location: St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School
Salary: $60,000-$70,000

Job Summary

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is seeking a Campus Minister for Mission and Ministry. The Campus Minister for Mission and Ministry reports directly to the high school Chaplain.

The Campus Minister for Mission and Ministry:

- Is a prayerful and practicing Roman Catholic committed to the mission of the evangelization and catechesis of high school students, faculty, administration, and other school constituencies.
- Takes initiative in supporting the Chaplain in his work of the spiritual nourishment of the school.
- Understands the proper relationship between Faith and Reason, and understands the important role of Catholic Apologetics in the mission of evangelization and catechesis.
- Works collaboratively with the Chaplain, administrative team, and school staff to promote the truths, beauty, and goodness of the Gospel and the Catholic faith.
- Lives an exemplary life of holiness and serves as a role model for students and school personnel.
- Embodies a commitment to and zeal for Christian service that expresses the liberating truths of the Gospel of Human Life and Catholic Social Justice teaching.
- Is publicly and privately faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church as contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Code Canon Law as interpreted by the Diocesan Bishop.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Supports the Chaplain in the daily strengthening of the spirituality of the high school and in the promotion of Catholic identity and mission.
- Develops relationships with students, faculty, administration, and other school constituencies for the mission of strengthening their Catholic faith and advancing them in their relationship with Jesus especially in the sacramental life of the Church.
- Under the guidance of the Chaplain, organizes and sees to the practical details of Christian service opportunities, assemblies and presentations, and Catholic mission-driven initiatives, while also assisting the Campus Minister for Prayer and Worship in the execution of liturgies, prayer services, and retreats.
- Teaches one to two theology classes.
- Offers witness talks and presentations to students, faculty, administration, and other school constituencies on faith or other catechetical and theological topics.
- Supports the Chaplain in his ministry of spiritual counseling to students, faculty, administration, and other school constituencies during moments of crisis outreach.

Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in theology is preferred.
- An ability to articulate the truths of the Catholic Faith in a precise yet accessible way to high school students.
- An understanding of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the ways that those principles are actualized in the Diocese of Rockville Centre through constituencies such as Catholic Health, Catholic Charities, The Tomorrow's Hope Foundation, etc.
- A capacity for developing relationships and communicating well with high school students and colleagues.
- Leadership ability must be evidenced by performance in past or present educational/ministerial assignments. The candidate must demonstrate communication and public relations skills and must have the capacity, enthusiasm, intelligence, and patience to inspire students, faculty, administration, and other school constituencies.
- Computer and basic media skills are required.
- At least three years of ministry experience is preferred.

Hours of Work

- Monday through Friday work week with occasional weekends and evenings as dictated by the school calendar.
