Job Description

Title: Payroll Specialist
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Controller, Department of Education
Location: Hicksville, New York
Salary: $55,000 - $75,000 depending on experience and education

Job Summary
The Diocese of Rockville Centre, Department of Education is looking for an energetic, experienced and collaborative individual for the full-time position of Payroll Specialist. This individual will work at the Department of Education headquarters located in Hicksville, New York. The payroll specialist is an integral part of the business office and will report to the Controller. This position is responsible for payroll processing and benefit administration, as well as related general ledger transactions for two diocesan high schools and the corporate department of education entity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Payroll/Benefits
Employees are paid on a semi-monthly (15th and 30th) basis. Responsibilities include:
• Administering payroll semi-monthly using ADP for 200-280 employees
• Responsible for collecting timesheets, calculating wages and processing payroll for each pay period.
• Responsible for on-boarding new employees including new hire documents and input into ADP, processing terminations, and updating employee information.
• Will enroll new hires into the 403(b) plan and remitting semi-monthly retirement payments.
• Prepare related general ledger entries.
• Prepare monthly remittance and reporting to employee union.
• Prepare semi-monthly wage garnishment payments and reporting.
• Responsible for quarterly and year end payroll reconciliations and tax remittance review.
• Responsible for the year end review of employee W-2s and benefits reporting.
• Respond to unemployment notices.
• Tracking I-9s and wage forms.
• Providing support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation.
• Calculating annual sick leave accrual.
• Audit liaison for annual worker's compensation audit.
• Complete ad-hoc projects as requested.

Requirements
• Must have experience with administering Payroll, experience with ADP Enterprise is a plus
• Experienced with not-for-profit and school entities would be ideal
• Thorough understanding of employment and labor laws.
• Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
• Proficient with Google applications, Excel, Word
• Well organized, detail oriented, analytical
• Technologically savvy; initiative to learn, explore
• Must be collaborative and willing to assist with additional tasks as needed
Hours of Work
• This is a full-time, twelve-month in-person position with a standard 35 hour work week Monday through Friday. Some flexibility to work from home when needed may be discussed after probationary period and upon controller's approval.
