Job Description

Saint Joseph Catholic School is seeking a collaborative, enthusiastic, and certified Middle School Science teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a love for science in our students and dedicated to upholding the values of Catholic education. As part of our commitment to providing a dynamic and engaging learning experience, we proudly implement the Project Lead the Way curriculum, renowned for its rigorous approach to STEM education. The successful candidate will have experience or a willingness to be trained in this innovative curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications.

Additionally, this position offers the unique opportunity to serve as the STEM Lab coordinator for grades 2-5, overseeing the implementation of STEM activities and experiments. The STEM Lab coordinator plays a vital role in nurturing curiosity and critical thinking skills among our younger students, preparing them for success in their future academic pursuits.

The teacher candidate must be a qualified professional educator certified to teach in a Catholic school within the Diocese of Orlando. Reporting directly to the principal, the teacher will adhere to the educational policies and procedures established by the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools, as well as collaborate with the school's leadership team to cultivate an educational environment rooted in Catholic values.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

Teaches and acts in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
Understands and appropriately teaches the curriculum of the Diocese of Orlando.

Assesses student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando. Knows, teaches and acts consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies and procedures of the Catholic school.
Maintains Florida state teaching certification.
Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues and principal.

Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Faith Fit Enrichment Program and in Diocesan and school-sponsored professional development programs.

Performs teaching duties as assigned by the principal.
Attends required faculty and staff meetings.

Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities and projects.

Maintains accurate student attendance and academic records.
Maintains a safe, orderly and secure learning and working environment.

Participates in the semi-annual performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school.

Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students and general school matters.

Supervises and evaluates students, escorts students from building to building and on field trips (being responsible for keeping field trip permission slips as well as student medical information forms).
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Practicing Catholic preferred.
Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements.
Florida State Teaching Certification in General Science 5-9.
