Job Description

Mission: St. Mary School provides an authentic Catholic education . This education allows students to be lifelong learners with an understanding of the call to service.

Saint Mary of the Assumption in Avilla Indiana is in search of a licensed and qualified elementary teacher, preferably someone passionate about working with children in early elementary education. The ideal candidate would be a person who is faith-filled, dedicated to quality pedagogy, and committed to holistic education of children. Saint Mary was founded in 1863 and in 1876 the Fransican Sisters of the Sacred Heart staffed the school and are responsible for its Catholic identity and Fransican spirit of responsible stewardship and service. In addition the school has a reputation for academic rigor and high expectations. Quality candidates should be open to sharing their faith with children and collaborating with their colleagues. Lastly, familiarity with educational technology and a willingness to grow professionally and spiritually are ideal.

A quality candidate would:

Support the mission of the school and be able to integrate it into their instruction and daily living

Be committed to growing professionally through collaboration with colleagues

Be skilled in planning and executing quality objective-driven curriculum and use assessment and data to adjust instruction

Understand and utilize educational technology

Maintain accurate records of student performance and understand quality grading practices

Provide regular and consistent communication with parents, students, staff and administration.

Be willing to perform the duties associated with the position which would include attending faculty meetings, student supervision during contract hours, attendance of some after school activities and events, and additional duties as assigned by the principal

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in education or appropriate field

Teaching license from the Indiana Department of Education

Successful experience in student teaching or classroom teaching
