The Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Seattle, Washington is currently hiring a gardener for its spring Environmental Education program. This is an opportunity to work outside, plant vegetables and teach students about organic gardening. Our program is located at Camp Hamilton in Monroe, Washington. Enjoy 570 acres of beautiful evergreen forest located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
Responsibilities of the gardener include: plan and plant a variety of plants in the garden; tend and care for a ½ acre garden, greenhouse and compost system; maintain and upkeep of garden and surrounding areas; plan and provide instructional garden lessons to students using established curriculum and resources.
Preferred Qualifications: at least 21 years old; enthusiasm for working with middle school students; two years college level course work or related experience, preferably with science or education background; CPR and First Aid certification; a desire to share one's faith with others and a strong environmental ethic; ability to lead and engage students in faith based activities and discussions; desire to live in a faith based community. No previous gardening background is necessary, but knowledge and enthusiasm in variety of program areas that relate to organic gardening is preferred.
Position is seasonal, starting late March and running through June with 3 and 4 day sessions. The gardener is provided room and board on site, paid a competitive rate and have pro deals available to them.
