Job Description

Our Lady of Perpetual Help has been forming faith-filled leaders and confident learners in Howard County since 1879. A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) is a private pre-kindergarten through grade 8, Catholic elementary school of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

The Principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School oversees the overall educational program of the school and is directly responsible for its day-to-day operations. The Principal is ultimately responsible for ensuring that instructional practices and programs are consistent with the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school. In consultation with the Pastor and the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, the Principal fosters the Catholic Identity of the school among all its stakeholders. The Principal reports to the Pastor and the Superintendent of Catholic Schools

Essential Functions

-Implements the educational ministry of the Roman Catholic Church
and fosters the Catholic Identity of the school.
-Hires, supervises, and terminates all academic and support staff in
consultation with the Pastor and Superintendent. Implements the
Archdiocesan recommended process of teacher supervision and
evaluation. Establishes and administers personnel policies for the
faculty and staff in conjunction with the Department of Human
Resources and the Department of Catholic Schools.
-Works consistently toward improving the quality of instruction within
the school by fostering the professional growth of the instructional
staff and by overseeing the implementation of the Archdiocesan
curriculum.
-Directs and implements policies for the retention, promotion,
graduation, suspension, and dismissal of students.
-Ensures that academic, health and guidance records are maintained.
-Assists in developing and implementing a strong student recruitment
and retention program.
-Assists in developing and implementing a public relations/marketing
program for the school.
-Participates in funding and grant opportunities.
-Establishes procedures to ensure the safety of students and all other
personnel while on school property.
-Provides opportunities for the spiritual and intellectual growth of the
students and faculty.
-Participates with the School Board and its advisory committees.
-Prepares and presents recommendations for the annual operations
budget to the School ---Board and the Superintendent of Catholic
Schools.
-Provides for the scheduling and supervision of all student activities
and develops the school calendar in consultation with the Pastor and
Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
-Coordinates responsibilities and duties of the assistant principal and
other staff members.
-Oversees teacher certification.
-Collaborates with the parish and the community to authorize the use
of the school facilities by outside groups.
-Serves as liaison with parent and student organizations as needed.
Provides leadership and visibility at school and community events.
-Prepares all necessary reports for the Pastor, the School Board, and
the Department of Catholic Schools.

Position Qualifications

-Practicing Catholic, fully able to model Christian values, adhere to the
teachings of the church, and participate in the sacramental life of the
Church.
-Master's degree from an accredited institution in educational
administration, supervision, curriculum development, or education.
-Minimum of five years of teaching experience at the appropriate level
(elementary or high school). Three or more years of experience in a
Catholic school is preferred.
-Minimum of three or more years of leadership experience in a
Catholic school preferred.
-Maryland certification as a Principal (ADMIN II).
-Catechist certification or ongoing faith formation.
-Strong oral and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
