Job Description

The Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey is seeking qualified candidates who are passionate about evangelization and have a desire to bring others to an encounter with Jesus Christ that inspires missionary discipleship!

The Archdiocese of Newark is rich in diversity and applicants will have the opportunity to serve in a variety of parishes, many of which are multicultural. Openings are currently available for full-time and part-time Parish Catechetical Leaders/Directors of Religious Education in parishes throughout the archdiocese.

The Parish Catechetical Leader (Director/Coordinator of Religious Education) works closely with the pastor and parish staff/volunteers to coordinate the faith formation efforts of the parish. Depending on the unique needs of a parish the specific responsibilities will vary. They may include coordinating traditional model K-8 children's programs, family catechetical programs, sacramental preparation, RCIA/OCIA, and/or adult/parent faith formation.

Parish-specific job descriptions are provided to discern the best use of the applicants' unique gifts. The salary range will vary in accord with the individual parish's needs, the scope of the responsibilities of the job, size of the parish, and the education and experience of the candidate.

Candidates must be practicing Catholics, provide a positive referral from a Pastor who knows the applicant personally, and must have excellent communication and organizational skills, a proven ability to maintain confidentiality, digital literacy in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, teleconferencing and other digital tools employed in catechetical ministry as required.

A bachelor's degree in Catechetics, Theology, Education, or a related field is preferred by not required.
Parish ministry experience is preferred.
