Job Description

Position Title: Director of Music and Liturgy
Location: St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Salary: Negotiated with Benefits
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Pastor

Job Summary:
The Director of Liturgy and Music is an integral member of the parish staff who assists the pastor in his responsibility as primary liturgist.

The Director provides leadership, expertise, and pastoral sensitivity in the planning and execution of parish liturgies in accordance with the Catholic Church, Archdiocesan policies and guidelines.

The Director oversees and develops the parish liturgical music, the musicians, and fosters the active musical participation of the assembly.

Qualifications/Requirements
- Knowledge of and support for official Church teachings, including knowledge of the Church's liturgy, norms, and laws
- Bachelor's degree in Liturgy, Liturgical Music, Theology or a related field
- Has experience working in parish ministry
- Skilled in voice, piano, organ
- Experience directing a choir and leading rehearsals
- Versatility in a variety of musical styles

Duties/Responsibilities
- Plan all weekend and Holy Day liturgies throughout the liturgical year
- Assists, coordinates and plans sacramental liturgies (First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Mass of Anointing of the Sick, etc.)
- Directs Celebration Choir/Youth Christmas Eve Choir/Resurrection Choir and oversees Glory Choir
- Accompanies for Sunday Masses on a frequent basis
- Coordinates, trains, and recruits liturgical ministers including lectors, greeters, ushers, servers, Eucharistic Ministers, sacristans, accompanists, singers, and instrumentalists
- Implements recommendations from the Liturgy Commission
- Assists engaged couples in planning their wedding liturgy
- Works with Pastoral Associate to coordinate funeral liturgies
- Supervises parish Environment and Art Committee
- Collaborates with Director of Faith Formation for OCIA Rites
- Leads seasonal Morning & Evening Prayer and other prayer services as needed
- Serves as a resource to St. Pius X School and parish Religious Education
- Keeps music files up to date and ensures copyright laws are followed
- Provides for the on-going formation of liturgical ministers, musicians, and Liturgy Committee
- Maintains budget for the worship and liturgical life of the parish
- Supervises sacristan/church needs

- A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Commitment to on-going professional education, formation, and personal spiritual growth through study, research, workshops, and seminars
- Has good organizational and communication skills
- Able to work well with adults/high school/children
- Collaborates with parish staff
