Assistant Director/Media Relations
Direct Supervisor:
The Assistant Director of Communications/Media Relations will report to the Director of Communications of the Archdiocese.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Communications/Media Relations will be responsible for day-to-day media relations work for the Archdiocese. This work will include, but will not be limited to, preparing press releases, drafting letters on behalf of the Archbishop of New York and/or the Director of Communications for the Archdiocese, drafting blog posts and other "new media" communications, and when necessary, serving as a press spokesperson for the Archdiocese.
The Assistant Director of Communications/Media Relations will be required to attend certain events at Saint Patrick's Cathedral or elsewhere in the Archdiocese at which media might be present, and will be responsible for interacting with the reporters, photographers, and videographers. Some of these events may take place in the evenings and on weekends.
The Assistant Director of Communications/Media Relations will interact with other departments of the Archdiocese, with pastors, and with affiliated agencies when necessary in responding to media inquiries and emergencies.
Personal Characteristics:
Must be well spoken, and be able to make a good impression if being interviewed, particularly on television and radio. The ability to write clearly and concisely is mandatory. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. Must be a self-starter, and able to work in cooperation with others in the Office of Communications and in the Archdiocese.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor degree in media, communications, or public relations preferred.
Experience: 1-3 years of media relations, public relations, or related communications work needed.
