JOB DETAILS
The CFO is responsible for overseeing all accounting practices, preparation of budgets and quarterly reports to budget heads on the amount of budgeted funds consumed to date. The budget responsibility includes recommending for Board approval tuition and fees to be charged in the next fiscal year. He or she is responsible for cash management, the collection of tuition and fees, and the investment of excess cash. The CFO reviews the performance of endowment assets in conjunction with the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees. He or she deals directly with outside lenders, issues quarterly financial reports to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, supervises the internal control function, and presents required data to the outside auditors.
The CFO is also the chief business officer of the Prep. In that capacity he or she is responsible for the execution of contracts with vendors. The CFO assures that the Prep has adequate insurance coverage and is operating in compliance with all applicable City, State, and Federal laws, especially laws governing employment practices. Reporting to the CFO, and assisting in assuring compliance with employment laws, is a manager of human resources.
Oversight of the pension program is a responsibility of the CFO, who serves as a trustee of the pension plan. The CFO is the Prep's immediate contact with outside investment advisors. He or she serves as staff to, and meets quarterly with, both the Finance Committee and the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Qualifications
- A CPA is required. A master's degree in finance, management, or another business-related field is highly desirable.
Further Requirements:
- A minimum of five, preferably eight years in a senior management role.
- Up-to-date knowledge of computer applications to finance and accounting.
- Capability of sophisticated financial analysis.
- Oral and written communications skills, along with a willingness to communicate, that will keep the academic community apprised of financial conditions.
- Effective communication with parents who pay the bills and budget heads who are expected to contain expenditures.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Jesuit and Catholic educational mission of St. Joseph's Prep.
