JOB DETAILS
This is an entry level gift officer position that assists the Executive Director of Development with ongoing solicitation to meet the Abbey and Seminary operating, capital and endowment requirements. Duties include research, cultivation and direct solicitation of current and potential donors of $1,000+ for operating support and planned gifts to build endowments. Additional time is spent on recruitment of and communication with special event volunteers.
Essential Functions:
Solicitation and Donor Relations
- Assist with solicitation of current and potential Abbot's Circle donors capable of giving $1,000 or more per year in coordination with the Executive Director. Make phone contact with individuals each week. Make personal visits independently and with assistance of Abbey staff and volunteers. Prepare follow-up correspondence as appropriate with donors.
- Assist with the solicitation of Abbey event sponsors for the Seminary Benefit Dinner, Wine Tasting and Bach Festival. Coordinate recruitment of volunteers to work on securing sponsors for each event. Coordinate solicitation of items for the Wine Tasting auction. Work as a member of the solicitation team for the Seminary Benefit Dinner, Wine Tasting and Bach Festival. Coordinate contacts with Executive Director from targeted lists of current and potential sponsors. Attend Abbey special events and be part of the staff greeting team to welcome event donors.
- Keep logs of phone/personal visit activity. Enter call reports into the Development database.
- Coordinate 4 Abbey socials per year to introduce new friends to the Abbey. Seek individuals to host socials. Attend the socials along with other Abbey staff. Send follow-up letters and schedule follow-up meetings with those who attend the socials.
- Assist as needed with scheduling major donor visits for the Abbot and Executive Director.
Planned Giving
- Make contact via phone and personal visits with longtime donors to the Abbey, especially those individuals who have made gifts 20 consecutive years or more to encourage them to include the Abbey in their estate plans.
- Track membership among the Abbey's planned giving donors, The Legacy Society. Keep a record of donors who indicate they have made an estate provision to benefit the Abbey and, where possible, seek an estimate of the value of the estate provision.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
- 2 years Development or Sales experience.
- Good time management, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Ability to seek, establish and maintain donor relationships.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Proficiency with Word and Excel required.
- Valid Oregon Drivers License and willing to travel, especially throughout the Portland Metro area on a regular basis.
- Working knowledge of development software programs such as Raiser's Edge.
- Must have working knowledge of the Catholic Church. An understanding of a Catholic Abbey and Seminary helpful.
- Successful record of soliciting gifts and knowledge of planned giving opportunities preferred.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
