The Assistant Academic Dean reports to the Academic Dean and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Religious Studies Division. Essential duties include facilitating the admissions process and enrollment of students, tracking student progress and assisting in advising students in course selection, recommending courses to be offered each semester based on student need, coordinating comprehensive exams, compiling records and statistics needed for institutional reports, coordinating communications with satellite locations, coordinating online and web-enhanced courses and assisting faculty with course technology, overseeing course evaluations, coordinating graduation ceremonies, overseeing preparations for summer residents. The Assistant Academic Dean also assists the Academic Dean in the preparation of the Religious Studies Division segment of the seminary catalogue and serves on various committees of the Seminary. The Assistant Academic Dean will be required to work Monday and Tuesday evenings when classes are in session.
The Religious Studies Division serves the non-seminarian population of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, providing Catholic theological education at all levels, from non-credit catechesis to graduate work. Working in cooperation with various Archdiocesan offices to satisfy the educational needs of the local Church, the Division offers programs for educators, those involved in parish ministries, and the general public. Through its online programs, the Saint Charles experience is made available to the universal Church.
The Religious Studies Division offers an accredited Master of Arts degree and several undergraduate certificates in Catholic theology. It also administers the Catechetical Institute, which provides non-credit general catechesis for adults and certification credits for catechists, and the Theological Institute for Priests, which provides continuing education for Catholic priests. Courses are offered during the academic year and in the summer.
Qualifications
At least a Master of Arts in an area of Catholic Theology, with experience in academic administration and online learning. Strong organizational and managerial skills are imperative. The Assistant Academic Dean will be expected to make a profession of faith and oath of fidelity.
