JOB DETAILS
In accordance with the "Statement of Principle" of the Archdiocese of Boston (May 24, 1996), the Priest Chaplain at Boston Medical Center provides for the pastoral and sacramental needs of the Roman Catholic patients. As an employee of the Archdiocese of Boston, he is accountable to the Archdiocese through the Director of the Office of Health Care Ministry for carrying out this responsibility. He is also expected to work in collaboration with the administration of Boston Medical Center Hospital and the Coordinator of Catholic Pastoral Services/Menino Pavilion for the delivery of pastoral services.
Responsibilities:
I. Provides pastoral care to Catholic patients and families as identified by census and referral.
II. Provides Sacramental ministry to the Catholic patients and maintains the appropriate records.
III. Provides pastoral support and crisis intervention to staff as needed and available.
IV. Cooperates with the hospital's interdisciplinary clinical team and participates, as asked and available, in ethics committee meetings and consultations.
V. Maintains effective communication with the Archdiocese through the Director of Health Care Ministry.
VI. Collaborates with any assigned parishes.
VII. Assumes responsibility for own professional development and spiritual well being.
VIII. Meets on a periodic basis with the Hospital Administration's Liaison for purposes of communication, collaboration and planning.
