The Director of Campus Ministry at Christian Brothers Academy is a full time position which encompasses responsibility for animating and enabling the Catholic and Lasallian character of the entire community in the areas of worship, ministry, service, and community building.
The Coordinator of Service (a half time position) and the Sacristan are part of the Campus Ministry Team. Moreover, the Director works cooperatively with faculty and staff as a resource for service, prayer and ministerial support.
The specific responsibilities of the Director of Campus Ministry include:
1) Coordination of Peer Ministry Program. The backbone of the Campus Ministry Department is the Peer Ministry Program. In encompassing the following 4 areas, the program is central to the direct ministry by and with the student body.
The Peer Ministry Program includes:
A) Planning of Communal and Liturgical Prayer. (Office of Spiritual Life) The Peer Ministers assume primary responsibility for the planning of school masses, prayer services and any other services or sacramental opportunities.
B) Coordination of the School Retreat Program. (Office of Christian Formation) The Peer Ministers assume primary responsibility for an integrated 6 year program of retreats for all grades.
C) Promoting Social Justice. (Office of Social Justice) The Peer Ministers choose social issues and needs for the school's attention. Their efforts include research, educating the school community, organizing and leading collections and fundraisers.
D) Promoting Community Service. (Office of Community Outreach) The Peer Ministers encourage school-wide participation in community service activities.
E) Communicating the Message. (Office of Publicity) The Peer Ministers will work with the other offices of peer ministry to promote their various efforts, as well as provide communication within the community of peer ministers.
2) Promoting active involvement in the Church. The Director of Campus Ministry will help foster the concept of the unique Christian vocation of each person. Programs informing students of opportunities for involvement in the Church both as a lay person, priest or religious, will be made available. The Director will also establish contacts with local priests and facilitate their participation in school liturgies and prayer.
3) Communication of ministry programs. The Director will oversee and give high priority to the establishment of open communications with the faculty, parents and board so that the entire community is made aware of the programs that are available in ministry at CBA.
4) Promotion of Lasallian characteristics. The Director will make every effort to continue the Lasallian mission through personal prayer and witness, as a leader of orientation events for faculty, students and parents, with ongoing enrichment opportunities in daily life at CBA.
5) Presence and spiritual guidance. The Director will be present to the students, faculty, and parents, during the regular school day and through attendance at various school activities. In times of special need, in conjunction with the Guidance Department and Crisis Intervention Team, the Director will be involved in outreach to students and their families.
