There are several openings at this Catholic bilingual elementary and middle school in San Pedro Sula, Honduras for next year- 2008-2009. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and a desire to serve God through educating His children! The school is very Catholic and faithful to the Magisterium. Speaking Spanish is not necessary as it is an English teaching position. However, Spanish speaking skills are helpful and Spanish classes and homestays are available for those who desire to learn Spanish. Another option is to live in community with other missionary teachers. The teachers are paid a stipend of about $450 a month, but room/board is free (the school covers it). Health insurance is provided as well.
The school's spirituality is based on that of St. Francis: there is a Portiuncula chapel and every Thursday there is Eucharistic adoration held there, for which teachers, parents and students stay with Jesus throughout the day. There is daily Mass available as well as a Catholic charismatic community (Sword of the Spirit) in the city. There are many college age and young adults involved in the community. There is also the opportunity to help with youth ministry for the middle school youth, volunteer with the Missionaries of Charity and help with retreats for various youth in the diocese. There are many opportunities for music ministry as well.
The school's administrators have an interest in recruiting strong Catholic educators with a missionary spirit to aid in the school's mission to evangelize society starting with children. Native English speakers are desired as the school is bilingual and English is taught as a second language.
