Job Description

The Diocese of Beaumont is seeking candidates for the position of Chancellor. The Chancellor assists the Bishop and the Vicar General in the administration of the Diocese, serves as a canonical advisor to the Bishop and the Curia; functions as the canonical notary of the diocesan Curia; assures that the acts of the Curia are gathered, arranged, and safeguarded in the archives of the Curia; and coordinates the implementation of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth.

Minimum Qualifications for the position are:

Must be an actively practicing Catholic able to partake in the full sacramental life of the church with a commitment to ongoing formation in spiritual leadership.

Must have an advanced understanding of Canon Law; a Licentiate of Canon Law (JCL) or Doctor of Canon Law (JCD) is preferred. In addition, further studies in Theology and Church Administration is desired.

Must possess a Master's degree in Theology, Ministry, or Church Administration with at least 5 years' experience in diocesan or parish administration.

Must have a working understanding of Catholic Church structure and diocesan and parish functions.

Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess strong leadership and collaboration skills, as well as demonstrated ability at working with multiple constituencies.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will also be proficient in the following special skills and abilities:

Experience in both public relations and development.

Strong organizational skills.

Experience with strategic and/or long range planning.

Budgeting and financial management experience.

Experience in developing and administering programs to meet assessed needs.

At least five years' experience in diocesan or parish administration.

Experience in supervising and managing staff.

A working knowledge and ability to communicate in Spanish is advantageous.
