Research Technician
A Research Technician position is available immediately in the area of ionic liquid synthesis. Senior research faculty member, Dr. Joan Brennecke, is developing ionic liquids (salts with low melting points) for a variety of applications, including the capture of CO2 from post-combustion flue gas, their use in absorption refrigeration systems, and as heat transfer fluids. These projects are supported by two Department of Energy grants and are associated with the University of Notre Dame Energy Center (http://energycenter.nd.edu). The position focuses on design, synthesis and testing of ionic liquids and provides the opportunity for interaction with industrial partners on the projects. This position is for one year with a possible extension to two years.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience with synthesis and purification of ionic liquids; however, experience with organic synthesis, in general, will be adequate preparation. Familiarity with analytical instrumentation including NMR, ICP-OES, UV-vis, FTIR, solution calorimetry, DSC and TGA is desired. An M.S. or a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field is required.
