Institutional Profile: St. Edmund's Retreat is located on Enders Island, an eleven acre compound located near Mystic, Connecticut. Formed initially as a novitiate for training of priests of the Edmundite religious order it serves today as place of spiritual renewal and sacred art instruction. The organization's mission: To proclaim in word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the light of the Catholic Faith defines all aspects of the Islands purpose. St. Edmund's Retreat seeks to fulfill this mission by providing for the ministerial formation of priests, religious and laity; by offering retreats, spiritual development and educational programs for lay men and women, religious sisters and brothers, and priests; and by providing other programs and services that answer the call for the evangelization of the Church and the world.
Function: Director of Development
Reporting: Reports to the Executive Director
Location: Mystic, Connecticut.
Start Date: This position is open as of January 1, 2010.
Responsibilities: Responsible for successfully managing and leading all fundraising and donor relationships to raise awareness and financial support for St. Edmund's Annual Operating Budget, accountable for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors using various outlets. In addition, develops and directs all marketing and public relations activities.
- Manages and grows St. Edmund's Annual Fund (annual giving) including individual contributions, special events, giving programs and donor relations/stewardship to meet revenue goals. Develops Annual and long term plan for same.
- Meets with, and/or arranges meetings with, prospective donors with or without the assistance of the Executive Director or President and/or trained board members.
- Manages St. Edmund's Annual Gift Appeal to current donors
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and President, compile and oversee the production of all print materials used for appeals, events, newsletters, and special mailings.
- Collaborate with management to ensure the website is current and up to date.
- Manages the Event & Volunteer Coordinator ensuring volunteers help with events, special projects and certain day to day tasks.
- In cooperation with the management team, creates and publishes an annual Event and Promotional calendar, for approval by the Executive Director and President. The calendar will include fundraising, special events and promotional events, etc
- Produce required qualitative reports on all fundraising campaign/events for distribution, as well as a monthly revenue summary report.
- Work with Executive Director to develop yearly budget for the development department and ensure that work is completed with the budget. This will be an integral part of the development plan
- Directly manage The Event & Volunteer Coordinator and the Development Assistant..
- Serve as liaison to the St. Edmund's Retreat Board Development Committee
- Continue to develop contacts within the community (i.e. chamber events, rotary, Sunday worship community) as well as soliciting appropriate donations and sponsors.
- Design and implement opportunities to partner with corporate and business supporters to raise awareness and achieve revenue goals.
- Identifies grant funding opportunities, write and submit or oversee grant applications to secure foundation support.
- Work closely with Executive Director, President and the Board of Trustees to implement appeals for major and planned gifts.
- Supports Executive Director and President in capital and endowment campaign efforts.

Qualifications:
« BS/BA.
« 5- 7 years experience in not for profit fundraising/ institutional advancement.
« Successful track record in marketing, public relations and development. Knowledge of Catholicism and the Catholic Faith helpful, but not necessary.
« Evidence of successful gift solicitation.
« Strong management and leadership skills.
« Excellent written and oral communications, as well as organizational skills.
« Computer literacy including database management (e-Tapestry helpful) and MS office programs.
« Must possess strong people skills and have ability to effectively deal with the public.
« Ability to prioritize and focus with multiple and numerous tasks.
« Must be energetic and optimistic team player.
« Strong commitment to the Mission and Vision of St. Edmund's Retreat.
Compensation: Annual Salary of $50,000-$70,000 based on experience and qualifications.
Benefits: After 90-day probationary period is completed, benefits eligibility include, health, dental, short/long term disability and vacation time. Probationary period may be extended beyond 90 days if deemed necessary.
