COUNSELOR/SOCIAL WORKER
at Serviam Girls Academy a private, Catholic middle school in Wilmington, DE for low income girls operating under the NativityMiguel network of schools.

This role works in tandem with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Students and reports to the Dean of Academics.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Service to Students:
- Developing and providing services to students to assist them in meeting/achieving their educational and personal-social needs and goals
- Providing developmental guidance and behavior management programs for students
- Organizing motivational activities, individual and group personal-social counseling, health related counseling and educational and career advising
- Working to ensure high attendance rates for students
Service to Families:
- Serving as a liaison function between family/home environment and the school community by conducting home visits and documenting for files
- Building rapport with families and assisting them in reaching out to social service agencies if needed
- Recommending informational programs/workshops for parents based on their needs (e.g. parenting skills, financial aid, study skills)
- Serving as the official liaison with the Parent Organization
Service to Teachers:
- Facilitating and/or conducting faculty in-service training programs as related to student behavior issues
- In conjunction with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Students, consulting with faculty in order to assist them in developing effective classroom management techniques, providing relevant background information on students, and recommending appropriate educational strategies for working with students
- In conjunction with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Students, assisting in the referral and placement process for special and exceptional student programs
- Responsible for the proper maintenance of student records as they pertain to behavior and counseling issues
Service to Community:
- Assisting in the transference of relevant student information to appropriate community agencies
- Liaison with guidance counselors in area elementary schools to develop feeder patterns for admission of students
- Facilitating student referrals to appropriate community agencies
Planning and Development:
- Developing a school school-based program which provides direct services to students, staff, parents, and the community
- Assisting with the recruitment of students, and participating in the selection of students as a member of the Admissions Committee
- Providing input to After School Program Coordinator regarding community resources available for after school and summer programs
Program Evaluation:
- Conducting student needs assessment in conjunction with teachers
- Participates in the evaluation process as it relates to guidance
Other duties and responsibilities:
- Providing additional services as required by the Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, and/or Executive Director
The ideal candidate would have:
Teaching and or counseling experience
Masters degree in a Human Services field preferred
Bachelors in same field acceptable with 3+ years of experience
Experience in organizations working with at-risk students or in faith based initiatives
Specific knowledge and expertise in the areas of counseling theory/practices, individual/group theory practices, learning differences, federal/state/local laws regarding school practices
