Job Description

The Technical Theater Instructor is a limited part-time teaching position (for classes on Thursday evenings 6-8pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm, September through May) reporting directly to the Principal, with additional responsibility as Technical Theater Director for the two show productions during the school year (Fall Play and Spring Musical) reporting directly to the Theater Arts Director. Shows require additional time and preparation, with significant evening hours during the weeks leading up to and during the show. The ideal candidate will be an experienced instructor in the area of technical theater, with knowledge of theater operations, stage and set construction, and technical theater resources. The candidate will understand and embrace Bishop Ireton's school mission and Catholic identity.

Ideally, candidates for this position should have:
• Experience instructing in the area of technical theater and stage crafts
• Experience working with and leading adolescent programs
• Knowledge of theater operations, stage and set construction and theater resources
• Understanding of theater production
• Excellent group management, organizational and planning skills
• Resourceful, collaborative, high level of energy, and flexible
• Ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines
• Patience and the ability to stay calm and positive
• Reliable with a strong work ethic and professional behavior

Responsibilities include:
• Instructor and leader for high school theater students, ready to follow the employee code of conduct and requirements for Diocese of Arlington teachers
• Provide and teach a technical theater curriculum and syllabus that allows for students to design, build and run the technical aspects of the school's theatrical productions
• Maintain proper grading and instructional practices per school policy and procedure
• Monitor attendance and progress of students in all Stage Crafts classes
• Coordinate all of the technical aspects, such as, but not limited to, the set, lights, special effects, and sound designs necessary to meet the Theater Director's concept for mainstage productions
• Collaboratively ensure the smooth running of productions from the development of the production concept through closing night for both the Fall Play and the Spring Musical
• Attend all production meetings with the Theater Director and production team
• Provide Playbill information as needed, Stage Crew notes, Cappies information, and any additional paperwork or product oversight for the Cappies Critics
• Work with the Theater Arts Director on the Technical Theater Budget for the year, following all finance department processes
• Provide a safe educational environment for all technical theater students
• Conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed
• Enforce school policies in all areas
• Be familiar and proficient with equipment and supplies in the Theater and Scene Shop
• Supervise and facilitate learning for all of technical design teams
• Obtain all necessary materials for each show
• Coordinate plans with Assistant Technical Directors

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• Experience working in tech theater; technical director or assistant director experience recommended; a degree in a technical theater discipline is a plus
• Knowledge, training, and skill in organizing and managing facilities for the performing arts
