Job Description

Job Summary:
The Assistant Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will be responsible for facilitating and personally investing in weekly youth and young adult programs, which includes collaborating with the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to develop curriculum, offer volunteer formation and training, and plan events. This role aids in the implementation of catechetical and relational programs within a cohesive framework that is conducive to discipleship and relationship with Jesus Christ. This person will report to the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

This individual will be required to adjust schedule to meet the needs of the Parish, including work on weekends and evenings. The primary areas of responsibility are:

Plan and implement youth activities for Middle School students and families.
Support the planning and implementation of youth activities for High School students and families.
Support the planning and implementation of young adult ministry events.
Assist with the execution of collegiate outreach initiatives.
Collaborate with the Parish School, PSR, home school groups, athletic, and scouting programs.
Prepare curriculum for youth events prior to the start of the academic year.
Communicate with parents and students about all opportunities and publicize them to the parish.
Advocating for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry, based on the 1997 USCCB document, Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry
Attend regular staff meetings
Participate in staff planning
Communicate to staff about youth and young adult ministry activities
Be a resource person to parish staff on issues related to youth and young adult ministry
Be a consistent pastoral presence at Mass and parish-wide events.

Organizing and training of volunteers
Assist in the recruitment, formation, and training of a volunteer core team.
Monthly support and training sessions with leaders and volunteers.
Weekly communication with leaders and volunteers
Assist the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to ensure that all leaders and volunteers are compliant with diocesan VIRTUS requirements and ongoing formation.

Administrative Tasks
Work with staff to schedule all room needs
Participate in diocesan youth ministry meetings and quarterly regional youth ministry meetings.
Participate in ongoing faith formation and educational opportunities.

Specific Job Skills
Thorough knowledge of the Catholic faith and the ability to communicate it to others successfully.
Effective oral and written communication and composition skills.
Effective use of communication tools relevant to youth and young adult ministry
Ability to recruit and empower volunteers and collaborate well with them and others in carrying out the parish's mission and the mission of youth and young adult ministry.
An understanding of present-day approaches to youth and young adult ministry and the ability to research resources for youth ministry.
Build authentic relationships with youth, their parents, and young adults by investing time, intellect, and emotion. Ability to speak effectively in public.
Collaborative skills that serve to motivate volunteers.
Knowledge of how to use technology and media to communicate the Church's message.

Education and Experience Requirements
Practicing Catholic in good standing required.
Bachelor's degree preferred - theology, catechesis, or similar academic discipline preferred.
Experience working with teens and young adults, and specific team building and training.
