Job Description

Under the direction of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Archbishop Spalding High School was founded in 1963 as a parish high school for girls and was originally staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Known at the time as Holy Trinity High School, the school relocated to the present campus in Severn, Maryland, in 1966.

Known affectionately as "Spalding," the school today offers a world-class, college-preparatory curriculum balanced with a wide variety of co-curricular activities and athletic opportunities to help students prepare for the challenges of the 21st century. Over 98% of Spalding graduates pursue higher education, attending all five service academies (USNA, USMA, USAFA, USCGA, and USMMA), Notre Dame, Princeton, Yale, Loyola, Johns Hopkins, the University of North Carolina, and many other prestigious colleges and universities.

Spalding's expansive, 52-acre campus boasts 50 academic classrooms and four science laboratories. The school also has an IMAC laboratory, two personal computer laboratories, and a Project Lead the Way Engineering program. The auditorium, with 1,200 seats, provides a location for school-wide assemblies and liturgies as well as theater and music productions. A new auditorium was built in 2017, allowing for more space. The school has seven athletic fields along with a main gymnasium seating 1,100 and a secondary gymnasium seating 500. In 2021, Spalding completed a $7 million campaign, which resulted in a state-of-the-art innovation center that houses the school's engineering and cybersecurity programs as well as the Edward St. John Foundation MakerSpace.

Spalding seeks an experienced advancement leader for the role of Vice President of Advancement at an exciting institutional time with the appointment of a new President and Principal. As the leader of the school's advancement team, the Vice President must bring a proven track record of major gift philanthropy to grow Spalding's annual fundraising and endowment.

As a strong, highly respected college-preparatory school with over 14,000 alumni, Spalding is blessed with exceptional and expansive facilities, enthusiastic parents, talented faculty and staff, and engaged alumni - all eager to play a growing, philanthropic role in support of the school. Collaborating with the President and the school's advancement team, the Vice President will ensure that advancement priorities align with Spalding's mission and strategic plan. The next Vice President of Advancement will be expected to bring leadership, data-driven advancement strategy, and proven capacity to engage Board members, alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends in support of implementing Spalding's vision.
