THE POSITION: The Lunchroom Manager & School Aide is a qualified professional who meets the requirements to work in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Denver. The Lunchroom Manager & School Aide is hired by and directly accountable to the principal.
The Lunchroom Manager & School Aide is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. The Lunchroom Manager & School Aide cooperates with the Principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.
The duties and responsibilities of the Lunchroom Manager & School Aide include but are not limited to:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Arranges food and beverage items for the purpose of making items available to students and staff
• Cleans utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions
• Inspects food items, work areas, etc. (e.g. personal hygiene, proper food temperatures, etc.) for the purpose of preventing cross-contamination of food borne illnesses.
• Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel
• Uses proper body mechanics and cleaning procedures for the purpose of preventing accidental injuries to self and others.
• Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
• Maintains appropriate State of Colorado food handler's certification as required for state/county inspections
• Fills out all forms and reports required for the Federal Lunch Program (if school participates)
• Supervises students in the serving area with regard to safety and behavior
• Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
• Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
• Works in a team environment and encourages open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents and co-workers.
• Additional duties assigned by the principal
The Teacher Aide:
• Assists classroom teachers in the instructional process, reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment.
• Assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans and provide routine support.
• Assists students with academic and/or physical needs in order for students to access the educational environment.
The duties and responsibilities of the Teacher Aide include but are not limited to:
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on bulletin boards and/or other classroom learning displays and in keeping such displays current.
2. Under supervision of certificated teacher, prepare for classroom activities by distributing and collecting papers and other instructional materials for classroom instruction.
3. Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects. Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
4. Read to students, listen to students read and observe students reading abilities as assigned. Assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition. Assist students with math, spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
5. Assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans. Administer various tests as directed. Prepare mandated reports and documentation as required.
6. Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. Monitor and oversee student drills, practice and assignments in various subjects. Confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs and assist with the implementation of lesson plans.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials. Grade student tests and assignments, recording of grades and attendance, lunch reports and maintaining student records and files as assigned.
2. Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials as assigned by the teacher. This includes preparing the room for the activity, obtaining the required material and equipment, operation of the equipment and the return of all materials and equipment to storage.
3. Assist the certificated teacher with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, playground and afternoon dismissal.
4. Assist students with clothing, wash-up and toilet routines, if necessary.
5. Assist with lunch, snacks and other clean-up duties, as assigned.
6. Assure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures and maintain the learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner.
7. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during indoor/outdoor activities such as recess or lunch periods as directed, report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher.

9. Demonstrate effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, educational staff, parents and staff.
10. Respect the confidentiality of information regarding students and be discreet in dealing with parents and educational personnel.
11. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043);
• Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to execute appropriate safety and emergency procedures, including leading evacuations and providing basic first aid.
