Job Description
Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Community seeks a full-time Director of Communications to oversee all communications of our busy, vibrant parish of more than 3,000 families and school of 500+ preK - 8th grade students. The position is on location in Vienna, Va.The ideal candidate will be Catholic and have experience working in a church/school environment and collaborating with staff and volunteers to promote events and activities that enhance the community experience of God's presence and the Gospel message. He/she will have strong writing, design and digital communication skills and be able to manage multiple projects independently. An understanding of digital communication platforms is essential, as the Director of Communications is responsible for social media, website development and management, and digital publishing projects.
Compensation: Up to $68,000, based on experience
A. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the internal and external communication activities of OLGC Church and School by working with OLGC staff and ministry leaders to plan, define, develop, organize, create, and effectively communicate messages to the parish about events, programs and activities to foster the church and school's mission and maintain the consistency of message, quality and branding.
• Responsible for creating, managing and posting the bulletin, newsletters, posters, Mass announcements, electronic message boards, flyers, and marketing and promotional materials.
• Responsible for the upkeep of the school and church websites.
• Responsible for the management and posting of all social media platforms to include but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for the parish and school.
• Act as public relations person for the OLGC Community.
• Manage communication requests to prevent communication scheduling from overlapping and/or over-saturating the church and community audiences.
• Lead and manage volunteers and contractors such as writers, photographers and designers to ensure OLGC events are covered and maintain the consistency of message, quality and branding.
• Work with OLGC Staff and ministry leaders to review communications for typos, errors, inconsistencies, etc. (i.e., proofing and copy-editing), in order to ensure a high standard of grammar and presentation, brand standards, and consistency with OLGC Style Guide.
• Remain current on creative, communications, evangelization, and technological trends, training and resources.
• Maintain guidelines for internal communications among OLGC staff members and with the OLGC community.
• Work with OLGC staff and ministry leaders to collect, organize, utilize, and archive photographs of OLGC activities.
• Plan, create, and implement marketing campaigns, advertising, and press releases to promote OLGC School and Church to the local community in traditional, electronic, and emerging media.
• Manage subscriptions to Arlington Catholic Herald. (This might be modified)
• Work directly with the Pastor, and OLGC staff to coordinate, create, organize, plan, and implement effective communications letters and messages for the church, school and the community.
• Educate and train OLGC staff and parish leaders in communications opportunities and tools.
• Maintain a set of standard operating guidelines and quality assurances so that there is creativity and consistency in message, quality and branding of all communications.
• Work with Diocese of Arlington's Communications Office to develop and maintain best practices and communicate effectively.

• In collaboration with the Pastor and all of the members of the parish staff, helps create an environment that will enhance the community's experience of the presence of God and bring about the spreading of the Gospel message. Is guided by the Gospel, the Parish Mission Statement, and the Spirituality of Francis de Sales.
• Demonstrates a dedication to professional and spiritual development.
• Provides for one's own continued growth and understanding of the Spirituality of Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal.
• Performs other tasks that further the objectives and purpose of the position and Our Lady of Good Counsel in its mission to enhance the spirituality and greater good of all.
