Function Summary:
The General Counsel of Relevant Radio serves as the chief legal advisor to the CEO and holds a key officer role within the organization. The primary responsibility of the General Counsel is to provide prudent and strategic legal counsel that protects the organization from unnecessary risk. This individual will be conversant in all aspects of the organization's operations and mission, ensuring legal compliance and sound governance while safeguarding Relevant Radio's ability to advance the mission of bringing Christ to the world through the media.

Key Responsibilities
• Serve as trusted advisor and legal counsel to the CEO and Board of Directors on all corporate matters.
• Anticipate legal risks, identify proactive solutions, and develop internal policies and procedures to mitigate risk across all departments.
• Ensure compliance with FCC, FAA, and IRS regulations at the national, state, and local levels.
• Provide oversight and guidance in the organization's two largest expense areas-salaries & benefits and property rentals-working closely with the Director of HR, CFO, and Director of Engineering.
• Draft and review legal agreements, including vendor, client and internal contracts.
• Negotiate and manage contracts with outside parties, ensuring favorable and legally sound outcomes.
• Ensure the organization adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards, both internal and external.
• Oversee complex litigation and legal disputes, determining legal positions and strategies.
• Lead and mentor a team, fostering high professional and ethical standards.
• Stay current with developments in media and communications technologies and related regulatory frameworks.
• Provide guidance on mission-related issues under the 501(c)(3) Religious Corporation designation, ensuring all activities remain consistent with Catholic Church teaching and Canon Law.
• Counsel leaders on issues related to "The People of God" and "The Teaching Mission of the Church," integrating doctrine with organizational practice.

Professional Experience and Qualifications
• A fervent, practicing Catholic with deep knowledge of Catholic doctrine, theology, and philosophy.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active bar membership.
• Minimum of 10 years of professional legal experience, ideally in business or corporate law.
• Demonstrated experience managing teams and leading legal functions in complex organizations.
• Proven ability to negotiate effectively with external partners and protect organizational interests.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with the Catholic Church Code of Canon Law (Codex Iuris Canonici - 1983), particularly in areas impacting nonprofit religious organizations.
• Strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing evangelization in today's American context.
• Preferred: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish; foundational knowledge of Latin.
• Digitally savvy. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Embrace and utilize new and emerging technologies.
• Ability to lift 20 pounds, as needed.
• Valid driver's license. Ability and willingness to occasional travel.
