Job Description
Job SummaryIowa Catholic Radio Network is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Program Director to lead all broadcast and digital programming operations. This leadership role oversees content strategy, on-air talent, scheduling, compliance, and audience growth initiatives while ensuring all programming reflects Catholic teaching and meets FCC non-commercial broadcast standards.
The Program Director is a key member of the leadership team and helps shape the Network's voice, brand identity, and long-term growth strategy.
Responsibilities
Programming & Content Leadership
• Develop and execute programming strategy aligned with mission and growth goals
• Manage daily broadcast schedules across stations and digital platforms
• Oversee local shows, podcasts, and special programming
• Evaluate and select syndicated programming
• Ensure doctrinal accuracy and liturgical alignment
Team Leadership
• Supervise hosts, producers, operators, and programming staff
• Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate personnel
• Schedule staff and maintain operational coverage
Compliance & Operations
• Ensure FCC compliance and maintain required logs and documentation
• Review scripts, promotions, and content for regulatory and mission alignment
• Coordinate with engineering to maintain broadcast continuity
Growth & Strategy
• Monitor audience metrics and adjust programming strategy
• Provide performance reports and recommendations to leadership
• Support expansion, affiliate relations, and market growth initiatives
Fundraising Support
• Help plan and execute pledge drives
• Provide on-air leadership during fundraising events
Qualifications
Required
• Experience in broadcast programming, media production, or content leadership
• Strong leadership and personnel management skills
• Working knowledge of FCC broadcast regulations
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Practicing Catholic able to represent Church teaching publicly
Preferred
• Experience in non-commercial or faith-based media
• Audio production or editing experience
• Familiarity with broadcast automation systems
• Strategic planning or audience growth experience
Schedule & Work Environment
• Full-time, on-site position in Des Moines, Iowa
• Standard office hours plus occasional evenings or weekends
• Required availability during pledge drives and major broadcasts
• Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Use of computers and broadcast equipment
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
