Job Description

St. Joseph School in Garden City, a vibrant Catholic school community committed to academic excellence and student growth, is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable educator to serve as the 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher and Middle School Science Teacher. This position includes teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Science, including Regents-level Living Environment for 8th grade students.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for science education and inquiry-based learning. Instruction is supported by our fully renovated LabLearner science lab and aligned with the New York State Next Generation Science Standards, emphasizing hands-on experimentation, critical thinking, and real-world application. We have a brand new science lab which was renovated last summer which comes with all lab equipment and supplies for experiments & demonstrations.

This role also includes a stipend-supported opportunity to moderate the Aquinas Team, a student-led enrichment project that spans several months and culminates in a formal presentation of independent research and inquiry.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the 7th grade homeroom teacher
• Teach science to grades 6-8, including Regents-level Living Environment
• Deliver instruction using the LabLearner program and hands-on lab experiences
• Align curriculum with NYS Next Generation Science Standards
• Guide and support students in the long-term Aquinas Team enrichment project
• Collaborate with faculty and maintain clear communication with students and families

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Education or Science-related field (Master's preferred)
• NYS Teaching Certification preferred
• Prior experience teaching middle school science strongly preferred
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills

Salary is determined by years of full time classroom teaching experience and highest degree as per the DRVC Teacher Pay Scale.
