Job Description

The position
All positions at The Collegium consist of teaching and service/administration. Each position is assigned four "units" of work per semester. A course is generally one unit. Service or administrative work accounts for one or more units depending on the nature and scope of the work.

The Instructor of Latin position is expected to have, eventually, three units of teaching and one unit of service each semester. The service component of the position will be assigned after discussion.

The Latin Curriculum
The Latin curriculum utilizes the Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series of Hans Orberg, with ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation. All students are required to take eight semesters of Latin.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
-credentials in the field that an accreditation agency will recognize as adequate to assume the duties assigned;
-experience with Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series of Hans Orberg (with ecclesiastical pronunciation; macrons optional);
-experience teaching the same series;
-fluency with Latin as a spoken language;
-the ability to and a commitment to develop a Latin curriculum that
prepares students for and engages students in reading classical Latin literature;
-prepares students for and engages students in reading Scripture, the texts of the Mass, the texts of the Divine Office, and ecclesiastical documents;
-the ability to advocate for and implement a "Latin culture" at The Collegium;
-the flexibility to help in other areas of a liberal arts degree;
-the ability and willingness to assume service/administrative duties that relate to needs of The Collegium.

All faculty must
-be practicing traditional Catholics;
-commit to the mission and vision of The Collegium;
-participate in the community life of The Collegium;
-sign the Oath Against Modernism;
-participate in the daily Mass and the singing of Lauds and Vespers (Benedictine form) and praying the Rosary. (Mass is offered daily. Depending on the time of Mass, we sing either Lauds or Vespers that day.)

Final Comment
This is a position that is more than a typical teaching position with a few tasks in the name of service. This is a position for an individual who wants to be part of a movement to transform higher education, restoring authentic Catholic teaching in the curriculum, encouraging and modelling a committed spiritual life, and transforming the financial model.

Thus, beyond the qualifications listed above, the ideal candidate will be someone who is self-motivated, who has an entrepreneurial spirit, and who is willing and eager to do whatever needs to be done to achieve our goal.

About the Employer

The Collegium is a liberal arts, undergraduate college. Our primary mission is to "educate and form students, through the traditions of the Church, to restore all things in Christ."
We offer the Bachelor of Arts. While similar to Great Books programs, we are not a Great Books program.

The Collegium operates in leased spaces in downtown Kansas City, MO and attends Mass at Old St. Patrick's Oratory, across the street from our facility and staffed by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.
