Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Claims Representative Trainee to join our Claims Department and begin a long-term career in insurance and risk management.

This position is ideal for recent college graduates or early career professionals who are eager to learn, grow, and develop into a Claims Representative through structured training and hands-on experience.

Position Overview
The Claims Representative Trainee is an entry-level role designed to provide a strong foundation in insurance claims handling. Under the guidance and mentorship of experienced claims professionals, the trainee will learn how insurance claims are evaluated, investigated, documented, and resolved while gradually taking on increased responsibility.

This role is intended as a training position with the opportunity to advance into a Claims Representative role as skills, knowledge, and performance expectations are met.

Key Responsibilities
• Participate in a structured training program to learn the fundamentals of insurance claims handling.
• Learn the full claims process, including coverage interpretation, investigations, claim documentation, reserving, negotiation basics, fraud awareness, and legal considerations.
• Receive and review claim assignments under supervision.
• Assist with adjusting claims or coordinating assignments to independent adjusters.
• Learn professional communication standards through verbal and written interaction with insureds, claimants, and adjusters.
• Review claim files to ensure proper documentation and accuracy.
• Gain exposure to reviewing claims history and identifying potential risk or coverage concerns.
• Learn and follow procedures outlined in the Claims Manual.
• Train on internal systems used for claims processing and documentation, such as OnBase and AS400.
• Rotate through various lines of business, which may include workers' compensation, liability, auto, and property.
• Maintain organized and accurate claim documentation.
• Participate in after-hours emergency call rotation as assigned.
• Collaborate with other departments to support the efficient operation of the Claims Department.
• Perform additional duties consistent with the trainee nature of the role.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree preferred, or graduating soon; related fields such as business, finance, risk management, criminal justice, or similar are a plus.
• Internship, customer service, office, or administrative experience preferred but not required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfort with phone and email communication.
• Willingness and ability to learn technical insurance concepts and procedures.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a structured environment.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new systems.
