Job Description

Overview:
Holy Spirit Parish is actively seeking a dynamic and energetic individual who has a passionate desire, experience, and drive for enthusiastically engaging our youth in events, activities, and programs that bring them into relationship with Jesus Christ and helps them grow as disciples.

The Youth Minister is a member of the parish staff and actively participates to promote the parish mission: To Know, to Love and to Seve Christ through Word, Sacrament and Service.

The mission of the youth minister is directed towards youth grades 6-12. This person is to have purposeful engagement in relational ministry with youth and parents and provide guidance to mentors/catechesis. To that end the youth minister is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision and execution of parish programs designed to engage the youth of the parish. This includes sacramental preparation for Confirmation. He or she would develop close communication with and mutual support from families of youth.

Additionally, the youth minister will serve as a liaison and presence to the young adult community by providing support, resources, and presence to this ministry.

Presently, we have a mentorship style traditional program 6th - 12th, with a youth advisory committee comprised of teens who help create youth events. He or she would work with the Faith Formation team consisting of the Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation, the Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program and support staff.

We are looking for that unique individual who has the spirit and heart for ministry as well as the ability to organize and run a comprehensive, fun, engaging ministry.

High-level organizational and communication skills are necessary for success.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience. It is a 40 hours work week with flexible hours with an expectation that at least 16 hours of regularly scheduled office hours from 8am - 4pm. The person must live in the parish boundaries.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
• Practicing Catholic who fully adheres to and models the Chruch's teachings in faith and morals (Cf., "Code of Ethics for Catechetical Leaders," National Certification Standards for Lay Ecclesial Ministers, 2003, p. xxv.).
• Registered with the Diocese of Pittsburgh Protecting God's Children/Virtus program (part of the on boarding process).
• Excellent people skills with a heart for middle school and high school youth and their parents.
• An approach to ministry rooted in personal prayer and scriptural reflection.
• Comfortable and willing to work and collaborate within multiple teams.
• Excellent organizational skills, including time management and program and event planning skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
• Proven success in creating and implementing programs.
• Excellence in oral and written communication, including public speaking and social media resources within responsible use according to diocesan guidelines.
• Must be consistently available to minister on nights and weekends.
• Self-starter who is comfortable taking the lead on projects, events, and ministry activities.
• Bachelor's Degree required; Major in theology, education, pastoral studies, or youth ministry preferred.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in education, administration, management, evangelization and/or training.
• Experience in supervising and developing mentors, preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, web content management, social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and Flocknote.

Holy Spirit Parish is a dynamic parish in the northwest corner of the Pittsburgh Diocese. We have a vibrant pastoral team that works together with parishioners to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ alive and present in Lawrence County, PA. It is formerly comprised of seven parishes now consolidated into one: Holy Spirit Parish. We have three churches: St. Mary's, St. Vitus and St. Camillus located within 3 miles of each other.

The parish has over 60 ministries, serves over 4,600 families and has active outreach programs. There are @ 700 children in the faith formation program ages 3 - 12th grade. The average age of the parish is 57; approximately 25% are under the age of 23.
