Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEWThe Benedict XVI Institute is seeking a Design & Marketing Coordinator to serve as the primary hands on creative support for the Institute. This is a design forward role: the person in this seat will spend most of their time developing and producing polished, brand consistent visual content and helping BXVI continually develop and improve its visual identity. The role also supports the practical marketing systems that put that creative work in front of our audiences.
The ideal candidate is a strong designer with excellent visual judgment who can take BXVI's existing messaging and turn it into finished, professional pieces across digital and print channels. This person should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple small projects, and bringing ideas for improving BXVI's visual presentation. Because BXVI is a Catholic organization, we are looking for someone who is Catholic or Catholic friendly, and whose life and conduct reflect and support our mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and Brand
• Help develop, maintain, and continually improve BXVI's brand and visual identity
• Create polished marketing and communications materials, including social graphics, flyers, one pagers, event signage, digital ads, presentations, and other print and digital materials
• Develop and maintain brand consistent templates and visual assets that make future campaigns faster and more consistent to produce
• Apply BXVI's visual standards consistently across the website, social media, email, print, and other communications
• Partner with staff to source, organize, and prepare photography, artwork, video, and other visual assets for reuse across campaigns
Video and YouTube
• Edit existing video footage into polished, publishable pieces for BXVI's YouTube channel and other digital uses
• Prepare and publish videos to YouTube, including titles, descriptions, thumbnails, and basic organization of the BXVI video library
• Design compelling, brand consistent YouTube thumbnails and other supporting visual assets
Website
• Maintain and update the BXVI website in WordPress using Elementor, including new pages, event listings, staff and artist bios, and ongoing content refreshes
• Ensure the website reflects current branding, imagery, and messaging, and flag technical issues as they arise
Social Media
• Design and schedule regular social media content across BXVI's primary platforms
• Build and maintain a simple content calendar so posts go out consistently and on brand
• Adapt existing messaging, event information, and announcements into platform ready graphics and short form content
Email and Campaign Support
• Design and build email campaigns and templates, primarily in Mailchimp, for newsletters, event promotion, and donor or supporter communications
• Support basic list organization and segmentation so the right message reaches the right audience
• Track simple performance metrics such as opens, clicks, and engagement and share useful updates with staff
QUALIFICATIONS
• Portfolio REQUIRED. Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating strong graphic design and visual branding work. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered
• Strong visual design skills and an excellent eye for composition, hierarchy, typography, and brand consistency
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and/or Canva
• Working knowledge of WordPress, particularly the Elementor page builder
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several small projects and deadlines at once, largely independently
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment while communicating regularly with BXVI staff
• Respect for and alignment with the Catholic mission and identity of BXVI
Highly Desired
• Experience with video editing and preparing video for YouTube
• Photography skills and a strong visual eye, even though dedicated event photography is handled by another BXVI photographer
• Experience building and sending Mailchimp campaigns, including templates and basic list segmentation
• Prior marketing or communications experience with a Catholic parish, diocese, school, or other faith based or mission driven organization
• Familiarity with social media scheduling tools
WHO SHOULD APPLY
This role is well suited to an experienced graphic designer, marketing creative, or brand focused freelancer looking for a meaningful part-time engagement. We welcome individual contractors and small marketing or design agencies that can provide a qualified professional to work with BXVI. What matters most is strong visual judgment, consistency, and a genuine investment in BXVI's mission and brand.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first few months, the ideal candidate will have strengthened BXVI's brand and visual identity with a growing library of strong on-brand templates and assets, kept the website current and easy to navigate, built a steady and visually consistent stream of social media content going out on schedule, and established a consistent process for turning existing BXVI content and footage into polished digital and video pieces. We consider timely turnaround and edits essential for our small, fast-paced team.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
• Part-time and fully remote, with hours and scope expected to expand as responsibilities expand
• Given the part-time nature of this role, regardless of whether it is an employee or contractor, we ask for flexibility and a quick turnaround on most requests as they come in
• Compensation $28 to $38 per hour. This range is intentional, since compensation is based on the candidate's experience level and geographic location
• Open to W2 employees, 1099 contractors, freelancers, and marketing or design agencies
• Regular check-ins with BXVI staff to review priorities, workload, and creative direction
• Occasional coordination around BXVI activities and events may be required
TO APPLY
Please send a resume or an overview of your services, along with a portfolio or samples of relevant design, branding, website, social media, and video work, to info@bxvi.org. A portfolio is required; applications submitted without one will not be considered.
