Job Description

The College of St Joseph the Worker forms students in both the academic and manual trades, aiming for excellence in both to redeem all things in Christ. We are seeking a journey-level electrical professional who will support our Electrical Instructor (EI) in training apprentices primarily through hands-on work on job sites. This position is field-focused, working directly with students and construction teams to ensure quality workmanship, professional development, and safe, competent job performance.

The Journey-Level Electrical Field Assistant plays a critical role in developing the next generation of electricians by providing daily mentorship and on-the-job training (OJT) in residential and commercial settings. While this role may occasionally assist with related instruction (RI) in the classroom or shop, its primary focus is in the field, reinforcing technical skills, professionalism, and the habits of a master craftsman.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*On-the-Job Training (OJT):*
- Work alongside apprentices on active job sites to model proper technique, safety practices, and professional conduct.
- Assist the Electrical Instructor in supervising student performance and providing real-time coaching on electrical tasks.
- Evaluate apprentice readiness and ensure students are progressing toward competency in accordance with NCCER and apprenticeship standards.
- Collaborate with the Electrical Instructor and Project Manager to align worksite activities with training goals.
- Support jobsite coordination, including layout, material staging, and troubleshooting during each phase of construction.
- Review and help interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and scope-of-work documents with students and subcontractors.
- Uphold and promote a high standard of workmanship and jobsite cleanliness, ensuring customer satisfaction and student pride in their craft.
*Related Instruction (RI) Support (as needed):*
- Assist the Electrical Instructor with hands-on shop demonstrations and practical assessments when required.
- Reinforce classroom concepts during fieldwork by connecting theory to application.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Faithfully Catholic, submits to Church Authority in all Her teachings.
- Licensed Journey-Level Electrician with a minimum of 4 years of experience in residential and/or commercial electrical work.
- Experience mentoring apprentices or working in a team-based construction environment.
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and current industry practices.
- Ability to model patience, integrity, and excellence in both craft and conduct.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Be passionate about forming young men and women into capable, confident tradespeople.
- Enjoy teaching through doing-guiding others while working shoulder-to-shoulder on real projects.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with students, instructors, and jobsite personnel.
- Be organized, dependable, and solution-oriented in dynamic field environments.
