First Grade Teacher

Job Description

Long Beach Catholic School is seeking a faithful, dedicated, and enthusiastic First Grade Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026-2027 school year.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the homeroom teacher for a First Grade classroom
• Provide engaging, age-appropriate instruction in religion, reading, phonics, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies
• Help students develop strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills
• Incorporate quality literature, stories, poetry, art, music, and hands-on learning into the classroom experience
• Foster curiosity, wonder, good habits, and a genuine love of learning
• Integrate the Catholic faith throughout the school day, including prayer, the liturgical year, and the lives of the saints
• Create a joyful, structured, and nurturing classroom environment with clear expectations
• Support the academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development of each student
• Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and families
• Collaborate with fellow teachers and administration as part of the broader life and mission of the school

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

• Is faithful and committed to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church
• Actively participates in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church
• Loves working with young children and brings patience, warmth, enthusiasm, and appropriate classroom structure
• Holds a bachelor's degree in education or a related field; appropriate New York State certification is preferred
• Has experience teaching at the elementary level; experience in the primary grades is preferred
• Has a strong understanding of foundational reading, phonics, writing, and mathematics instruction
• Has an appreciation for classical education, rich literature, traditional teaching methods, and the Catholic intellectual tradition
• Is eager to contribute to a joyful, collaborative, and faithfully Catholic school community
