Youth Ministry Summer Intern

Job Description

St. Mary of Sorrows is seeking a Summer intern to assist our Office of Religious Education and Youth Ministry 7-12, from late May through early August. The ideal candidate is a faithful missionary disciple desiring an opportunity to serve the youth of the Church and preparing for full-time ministry work in the future. Our internship will allow the candidate to partner with a dynamic ministry team, engaging youth and adults in the work of Catechesis and Evangelization. Our intern will gain valuable experience with many aspects of parish youth ministry and religious education from learning administrative tasks to event planning skills and gaining many opportunities to share the Faith with youth and adults. Qualifications
• Be a college Sophomore or older with a high school diploma
• Be a practicing Catholic faithful to the teachings of the Magisterium
• 1-2 years of volunteer experience in a Catholic Youth Ministry or Religious Education setting required
• Preferred, Interest in future work in Youth Ministry, Catechetics and Evangelization
• Be available for internship from Late-May to early August
• Be flexible and willing to adapt to changing circumstances
• Be willing to work afternoons, nights and some weekend events
• Be able to work independently and with a team, remaining organized and on task in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
• Proficient at Microsoft Suite, Apple iOS
• Familiarity with marketing using social media, iMovie, Flocknote
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Bring energy and enthusiasm to recreational activities, ie. Sports and games

Responsibilities
• Serve a total of 240 hours by the end of the internship, hours flexible and depending upon the needs of the youth ministry. Most hours will be weekday afternoons, evenings, and some weekends
• Collaborate as a vital member of ministry team under the guidance of the Director of Youth Ministry and Youth Faith Formation Assistant
• Engage in missionary discipleship and evangelization efforts
• Assist with overall office administrative duties
• Prepare materials for events and programs
• Attend various youth ministry activities throughout the Summer
• Collaborate with staff to provide ongoing formation and training for adult ministry team
• Create Catechetical materials and resources for Confirmation preparation
• Lead groups of young people through various activities under the direction of staff

• Virtus-compliant through the Arlington Diocese's Office of
Child Protection or willing to become compliant
