CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICERJOB DESCRIPTION:
St. Leo the Great Catholic Church seeks a talented and faithful Campus Security Officer. Reporting directly to the Pastor, the CSO will be responsible for building new and improving existing security measures on campus. They will be a visible presence, and a point of contact for the safety of our vibrant parish and school community. This position is full-time, non-exempt, with benefits and will be compensated according to prior experience and responsibilities undertaken.
ABOUT THE EMPLOYER:
St. Leo the Great Catholic Church is a vibrant, Roman Catholic community on approximately 12 acres of land in the heart of the City of Fairfax, Virginia. The parish serves the spiritual needs of a diverse and multilingual community of over 12,000 parishioners. The parish also features a thriving school, (grades pre-K to 8) with over 400 students.
The parish is an integral member of the local community, located adjacent to a community park, a local public elementary school, and within 500 feet of the Fairfax City Police Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
•Oversee and monitor all safety protocols and related equipment on campus. E.g. monitor, update and improve our camera security system
•Provide a physical presence on campus during school hours, and during special events. ensure the security of the building and grounds through regular walk-throughs and observation
•Collaborate and communicate with key members of the St. Leo's team (Pastor, School Principal, Facilities Manager, etc.). This includes regular and reliable communication of security related items to be shared with the relevant parish community
•Monitor and handle the alarm system, provide and assist with building access, camera systems, and the evening/weekend alarm programming
•Develop, arrange and participate in security related training for appropriate staff and volunteers
•Monitor the Church and School calendar for potential security challenges. Work with the appropriate staff to develop an action plan for these events.
•Collaborate with the City of Fairfax Police Department (and other related agencies) and be a contact person to facilitate appropriate law enforcement/EMS responses to developing security situations.
•Collaborate with the Safety and Security committee to navigate security presence on campus when the CSO is not here.
•Together with the Pastor, be on call for potential emergencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
•Background in physical and/or personnel security
•Experience in law enforcement, military, or private security preferred.
•Demonstrate a knowledge of access control and video monitoring technologies to maximize the effectiveness of these technologies as utilized by St. Leo's staff.
•Present a mature, professional, and competent security presence when appropriate.
•Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to develop a "team" approach to security solutions.
•Ability to effectively communicate with and develop volunteer participation in support of the security mission.
•Experience with or demonstrated ability to identify 3rd party contract services for technical assistance or other security-related services.
•Strong communication and liaison skills especially in dealing with law enforcement and other emergency response organizations.
•Strong organizational skills along with the ability to independently develop proactive security measures.
•Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of office software, especially Word and Excel.
•An understanding of basic Catholic faith and the processes behind liturgical services. While not mandatory, being a practicing Catholic is significantly helpful in executing the basics of this position.
•While not mandatory, a knowledge of the Spanish language is helpful.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
•Salary Range: $24.00-$31.00 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
