DePaul Catholic High School Principal
JOB DESCRIPTION

The President upon the recommendation of the Superintendent supported by the Search Committee, appoints the Principal. The Principal reports to the President and to the Superintendent of Schools. In the absence of the President, the Principal is the presiding Executive Officer of the School. The Principal has both authority and responsibility for the daily operation of the school in the following areas:

The responsibilities of the principal include, but are not limited to, the following:

Catholic Identity:

1. Assists the President in visible, spiritual leadership of the school community including staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
2. Works with the Diocesan Schools Office and school leadership team to ensure that the school and its employees are guided and driven by a clearly communicated mission statement, by Catholic Identity rooted in Gospel values, and by the sacramental life of the Church.
3. Ensures that faith formation classes, faith-based programs and Campus Ministry activities reflect the school's commitment to faith formation, academic excellence, and service.

Administrative:

1. In alignment with Diocesan policy, policies and procedures that impact the school on a daily basis, such as assignments, tardiness, credits for graduation, discipline, and attendance. Ensures that appropriate student management and disciplinary procedures are established and put into effect.
2. Establishes procedures for school safety with respect to emergency protocols such as fire drills and lockdowns that adhere to federal and state guidelines that have been approved by Homeland Security and local law enforcement.
3. In conjunction with the school's administrative staff as well as the Director of Counseling, oversees the maintenance of accurate records including student grades and attendance.
4. In conjunction with the school's administrative staff as well as the Director of Athletics, oversees all student activities and athletics, including eligibility for participation.
5. In conjunction with the Vice President of Financial Operations, participates in the annual budgeting process and fundraising activities. .
6. Supervises the budgeting and spending of money such as Nonpublic funding, educational materials, and equipment
7. Represents the school and its community at all times and is cognizant of that responsibility.

Academics:

1. Designs, in cooperation with the professional staff, the Academic Programs of the school, ensuring its relevance, rigor, and relationship to current educational programs and best practices.
2. Motivates, inspires, and supports the faculty and students to reach their full potential. Arranges for the assignment of teachers, the purchase of educational materials and equipment, and the scheduling of courses and related activities. Acts as an instructional leader advising faculty as to best pedagogical practices.
3. Ensures the school has a clearly articulated and rigorous curriculum which is aligned with the Diocese of Paterson Schools Office standards, current skills, and Gospel values, implemented by qualified faculty and staff through effective classroom instruction that reflect the highest possible standards.
4. Ensures the school uses school-wide assessment methods with data analysis and practices to document student learning and program effectiveness to make student performance transparent and to inform the continuous review of the curriculum and the improvement of instructional practices.
5. Ensures the school provides programs and services that align with the mission to enrich the academic programs and support the development of student and family life through parents/guardians and school staff, i.e., guidance, behavior management, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, etc.

Development:

1. Supports the President and Vice President of Financial Operations in the development of a comprehensive plan for institutional advancement based on a compelling mission through communications, marketing, enrollment management, and donor cultivation and development.
2. Visibly participates in the life of the school, particularly admissions, extracurricular activities and fundraising.
3. In conjunction with school personnel, develops the criteria for admission to the school and determines the admission of students based on these criteria in conjunction with the Director of Enrollment, Director of Guidance, the Vice President of Financial Operations, and the President.

Supervision:

1. Interviews and hires all members of the teaching faculty and support staff with the approval of the President. Initiates any necessary dismissal of the above-mentioned personnel following Diocesan guidelines.
2. Supervises and evaluates faculty and faculty support staff in the execution of their prescribed roles within the school community. Professional development, skills training, mentoring, and thoughtful instruction and collaboration characterize these activities in the service of the school's mission, vision, and philosophy.
3. Annually reviews the faculty and parent/student handbooks to ensure clarity, and transparency, in regard to expectations on roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of the teaching faculty and support staff.

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$170,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
