Job Description

Reports To: Department Chair/Vice Principal of Academics
Job Status: 10 month, full-time, exempt

Description: JSerra Catholic High School is looking for an enthusiastic instructor to teach a combination of general literature and English classes at the high school level. Applicants should have background and familiarity with Humanities and High School English. The ideal candidate for this position should enjoy working with high school-aged students and their families. Individual must be comfortable in participating in shared decision-making in a team environment, have excellent oral and written communicative skills, and be proficient in using education-related technology.

Salary Information: Salary will be commensurate with experience; please see the compensation charts. Responsibilities
• Teach five sections of high school English, including Humanities starting in August 2024.
• Perform and work as an active team member in the Humanities Program, specifically, collaborating with the Humanities 4 (Theology) instructor and the Vice President of Mission and Faith to create a unified and cohesive set of materials for the junior level.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons to all students.
• Assess, record, and maintain student progress via the school's online grading program.
• Provide oral or written assessments, reports, and references relating to individual students.
• Collaborate with other teachers in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) as to the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, and methods of teaching and assessment.
• Participate in in-service meetings, education, and professional training courses.
• Participate in staff, group, or other meetings related to the school.
• Supervise students outside of the classroom as assigned.
• Participate in Humanities excursions once to twice per year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills in both writing and speaking.
• Proficiency in the development of curriculum at the secondary level.
• Proficiency in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records via the school's grading program.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in English or related field; Master's degree preferred
• Single Subject Teaching Credential required
• Prior experience teaching Advanced Placement English Literature preferred
• Prior experience teaching Humanities curriculum strongly preferred
• Prior high school teaching experience preferred
• Experience teaching Accelerated, SPED, and/or ELL students preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires the ability to perform occasional light lifting and carrying; standing and walking; and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Occasional hand use and finger dexterity needed to use computer keyboard and operate standard office equipment; occasional pushing, pulling, grasping, and reaching may also be required. Good hearing is required when communicating on the telephone or in person.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job. Primarily office environment with controlled temperature conditions and exposure to environmental factors and hazardous physical substances are minimal and pose little to no risk of injury. Occasional driving to meetings and/or events may be required.
