POSITION SUMMARYDFF is seeking a mission-driven Mission Advancement Officer (MAO) who will serve as a frontline fundraiser, personally engaging with Major Gift donors and prospects from across the Province of St. Joseph (New England to Virginia and west to Ohio and Kentucky.) The MAO is instrumental in securing the financial resources needed to advance the mission of the Dominican Friars: preaching the Gospel for the salvation of souls.
The MAO reports to the Director of Development, Mark Cantine, and will collaborate closely with the Director of Development, the expanding Development team, and the Foundation as a whole to help advance the long-term impact of the Friars.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Portfolio Management & Cultivation:
- Qualify and build a dedicated portfolio of approximately 120-150 active major gift donors and prospects, moving them through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles, driven by a deep passion for the mission
- Develop personalized plans for Major Gift donors that advance the donors' passions and interest in the Dominican Friars, and accompany individuals in their pursuit of Truth
Solicitation & Strategic Revenue Generation:
- Strategically invite, solicit, and close five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts, pledges, and planned giving opportunities to advance mission priorities
- Drive fundraising success by meeting or exceeding major gift revenue goals, maintaining a steadfast commitment to professional excellence and data-driven accountability
Stewardship & Benefactor Care:
- Practice personalized stewardship that expresses profound gratitude, ensuring donors feel valued and recognized for their vital role in the mission by relaying how their financial support directly advances the preaching of the Gospel
Collaborative Relationship Building:
- Establish and cultivate deep relationships of trust and mutual respect with Friars, Foundation staff, and donors, ensuring all philanthropic conversations are rooted in care for the common good
Perform other major donor activities as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Faithfully Catholic:
The person holding this position will represent the Dominican Friars in public, will bear witness to the Catholic faith, and will occasionally lead others in prayer. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing who assent to and profess the Catholic faith in its entirety as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- Passionate about the Dominican mission and charism, can articulate the "Dominican Difference" clearly
- Personal knowledge of the Dominican Friars would be a plus
4+ Years of Experience in Major Gift Fundraising:
- Proven track record of growing and maintaining donor relationships, including a strong track record of successfully soliciting and securing individual gifts at a high level
- Commitment to fundraising as a profession, as evidenced by membership in professional associations, CFRE certification, and/or job history
- Experience with Salesforce NPSP would be a plus
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (or equivalent advanced work experience) preferred
Collaborative Relationship Builder:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with Friars, colleagues, and donors
- Good work ethic with a continued willingness to learn and grow
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Applicants for this role do not need to live within immediate proximity of the Foundation's NYC offices, but must be able to easily travel throughout the Province of St. Joseph. Extensive travel is required for this role, including regular visits to the New York headquarters if the candidate is not local.
This position is full-time, salaried, with a full benefits package (including health and dental insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, a generous 403(b) retirement plan match, FSA, and commuter benefits).
The salary for an average candidate for this position will likely fall into the $100,000-$150,000 range, but may be flexible for a truly exceptional candidate.
