Director of Nursing

Job Description

The Director of Nursing supports the Superior of Our Lady of Angels Convent in providing for the healthcare needs of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration receiving assisted and skilled nursing care in Mishawaka, Indiana. This individual will supervise the nursing employees, be the primary patient care coordinator, and support the Sisters in living their vocation.

The Convent is our family home filled with Franciscan joy! The Sisters in the infirmary have spent their lives in service of God and the Church and now continue to participate in the mission of our community through their prayers. We strive to offer personalized and high-quality care for the Sisters and our staffing levels reflect that commitment. Even with the responsibilities listed below, the Director of Nursing will have time to be present to and interact with the approximately 25 Sister residents.

Clinical Responsibilities
• Create care plans for Sisters, run interdisciplinary care plan meetings, and oversee the execution of the plans of care
• Oversee outside contractors (occupational therapy, physical therapy, mental health, primary care, dental, podiatry) for the care of the Sisters
• In partnership with the Superior, coordinate with health providers for appointments, insurance, information, lab work, prescriptions, etc.
• Maintain basic medical records of Sisters
• Design and coordinate a Quality Improvement Program
• Coordinate vaccinations for Sisters and employees

Staff Management and Development
• Supervise nursing staff, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
• Schedule regular in-services and other training as needed
• Establish procedures and best practices

Collaboration and Communication
• Communicate daily with Superior of the Convent
• Work with managers of other departments (maintenance, housekeeping, dietary, business office)

Qualifications
• Registered Nurse License
• Previous experience in long term care preferred
• Previous supervisory experience preferred

We anticipate paying $100,000-$120,000 (based on experience) and offer comprehensive benefits including health and dental insurance, defined benefit pension plan, 403(b) plan, and paid time off - and you can be assured of the daily prayers of the Sisters!
