Job Description

With emphasis on forming Christian Disciples, the Director of Faith Formation develops, implements, evaluates and improves programming for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade and their families. This programming is to inspire a relationship with Jesus, deepen the understanding and appreciation of our Catholic tradition, and encourage engagement in the parish community.

The Director must demonstrate strong leadership skills necessary to identify, develop, and retain teams of paid staff and volunteer leaders critical to the success of parish ministry. The position reports to the pastor, serves on the Leadership Team, and supervises the Faith Formation office staff and over 50 catechists and programming volunteers for the 400 student K-8 program.

Specific responsibilities:
• In conjunction with the pastor and parish leadership, develops and designs programming for children and their parents and families that works to bring the parish vision alive.
• Directs all aspects of the K-8th grade Faith Formation programming and sacramental preparation for First Communion and Confirmation.
• Manages the class registration and enrollment processes each year, including the communication about classes/programs and the creation of collateral materials (registration form, website updates, volunteer opportunities guide, etc.)
• Leads volunteer recruitment process in collaboration with Faith Formation office staff.
• Develops and oversees a team of parents and other volunteers to plan and execute the Faith & Family Nights four times a year.
• Collaborates with area Faith Formation/Religious Education Directors on programming, such as Totus Tuus and Parent Religious Education evenings.
• Supports, trains and supervises volunteer catechists and small group facilitators for K-6 and 7th & 8th grade Called Confirmation programming.
• Meets regularly with the catechist team groupings (K-1st grades; 2nd grade; and 3rd-6th grades; 7th & 8th grades) for support and guidance.
• Serves as point of contact and communicates regularly with volunteers about Faith Formation/parish events, requirements, etc.
• Is willing to step in and assist with Faith Formation staff with administrative duties during busy times.
• Works with the pastor and liturgy staff to plan Confirmation and First Communion Masses.
• Manages annual budget for Faith Formation in collaboration with Pastor and the Finance Director.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• Practicing Catholic with understanding and support for Catholic teaching, mission and values.
•Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Pastoral Studies, Theology, Faith Formation, or equivalent.
• Previous experience participating in a parish faith formation program.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish leaders, volunteers and program participants.
• Strong working knowledge of Office 365 suite of products and highly comfortable navigating databases. Knowledge and experience using PushPay database a plus.

Preferred Job Skills and Experience:
• Five or more years as a member of parish staff
• Three or more years as a Director of Faith Formation
