Bishop Gorman Catholic High School

Reports To: Department Chairperson and Assistant Principals

Overview
Bishop Gorman Catholic High School, a premier college preparatory institution rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, seeks a dynamic and faith-driven Director of Performing Arts to lead its acclaimed performing arts program. The program includes instruction of theatre, musical theater, choir, and other performance-based disciplines, with a distinguished record of state and national accolades. The Director will oversee all aspects of the theater productions, fostering artistic excellence, spiritual growth, and a collaborative community aligned with the school's mission to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, prepare students for higher education, and create a community were service is valued and celebrated.

Responsibilities
• Program Leadership and Vision: Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for the performing arts program, ensuring alignment with Bishop Gorman's Catholic mission and college preparatory goals. Promote artistic excellence through innovative programming and curriculum development in theatre, musical theater, choir, and related disciplines.
• Curriculum and Instruction: Teach a variety of performing arts courses which may include theater, musical theater, directing practicum, etc. Oversee the design and delivery of performing arts curriculum, ensuring they integrate Catholic identity and Christian anthropology where appropriate. Utilize research-based instructional practices to maximize student engagement and learning.
• Production Management: Direct, produce, and supervise major school performances, including plays, musicals, concerts, and competitions. Coordinate technical aspects such as lighting, sound, and set design, collaborating with students and staff to ensure high-quality productions.
• Student Development: Inspire and guide students to cultivate their artistic talents, fostering creativity, resilience, and teamwork. Provide mentorship to develop performance skills, confidence, and leadership, preparing students for success in competitions and future artistic pursuits. Create opportunities for advanced students to take on roles in directing, choreography, or production.
• Faith Integration: Model and promote the teachings of the Catholic Church, supporting students' spiritual growth through pastoral care and integrating Gospel values into the performing arts program.
• Department Administration: Manage the performing arts budget, resources, and facilities. Supervise and evaluate department faculty and staff, fostering a collaborative and professional environment. Maintain accurate records of student progress and program activities.
• Community Engagement: Build relationships with parents, alumni, and the broader community to promote the performing arts program. Communicate regularly about performances, events, and student achievements. Organize showcases and participate in events to highlight student talents.
• Technology Integration: Incorporate iPad technologies and other digital tools into instruction and performances to enhance student learning and production quality.
• Professional Development: Pursue ongoing professional learning to stay current with best practices in performing arts education and pedagogy. Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and align with school standards.

Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in performing arts, theatre, music, or a related field required; advanced degree (Master's or higher) preferred.
• Experience: Significant experience in performing arts education, directing, or production, preferably in a high school or similar setting. Demonstrated success in leading theatre or music programs with a record of competitive achievements.
• Skills and Competencies:
o Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage a multifaceted performing arts program.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and staff.
o Proficiency in theatre production and music direction, with knowledge of technical theatre aspects (e.g., stagecraft, lighting, sound).
o Familiarity with or willingness to learn iPad technologies for instructional and production purposes.
o Proven ability to foster a welcoming, disciplined, and faith-based environment.
• Faith Commitment: Active, practicing Catholic preferred, with a commitment to supporting and advancing the mission of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop Gorman's Catholic values.
• Certifications: Teaching credentials or equivalent professional experience in performing arts education preferred. Must pass a background check.
