Job Description

Head of School
The Atonement Catholic Academy - San Antonio, Texas

Job Description:
The Atonement Catholic Academy in San Antonio, Texas, seeks a visionary Head of School to start July 1, 2025. The Head of School will collaborate with the Pastor, Board, Superintendent, and parents to lead the administration, faculty, staff and students in their quest for, and knowledge of, the Truth, Who is Christ. This educational apostolate takes place in an environment where the administration, faculty, and students attend daily Mass, cultivating a vibrant Catholic culture with a special emphasis on music and the arts.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, The Atonement Catholic Academy is a Catholic School of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter and an integral part of the educational mission of Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church. The classical education offered at the Academy is informed by the four pillars of Ordinariate education: Sacred Worship, Sacred Wisdom, Sacred Music, and Sacred Art. Building on strong foundations, The Head of School will have the ultimate responsibility to cultivate this model of education and continue the development of the curriculum and formation of the faculty of The Atonement Catholic Academy.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a faithful, practicing Catholic and an able administrator with a commitment to the mission of The Atonement Catholic Academy. Effective communication skills, oral and written, are essential to inspire the staff, faculty, students, parents, and prospective families and donors to live out fully that mission.

A collaborative leadership style and commitment to mentoring are needed to bring the administrative team and faculty together in pursuing excellence in the context of a classical, Catholic education. A candidate possessing the ability to assist and direct the offices of development and admissions in a competitive educational market is required.

The successful candidate will possess a Catholic understanding of the human person and how this relates to the essence of education. The ability to evaluate curricula, faculty, and prudently implement any needed remedies is essential. Understanding of accreditation requirements and the ability to address them without negative impacts to classical learning are required.

Vision of the School:
The Atonement Catholic Academy is a classical, Catholic school for girls and boys in Pre-K3 - 12th grade, with a current enrollment of 265 students. The school opened in 1994, and is affiliated with Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church. In the Spring of 2017, Our Lady of the Atonement Parish and The Atonement Catholic Academy became members of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter.

The vision of The Atonement Catholic Academy is to transform young persons into mature, joy-filled disciples of Christ. Our students are active participants in their formation in the intellectual, moral, and spiritual virtues, collaborating with their teachers and parents. We take a classical approach in providing a well-rounded, authentically Catholic education. Our administrators, faculty, and staff take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium, along with making their Profession of Faith, at the beginning of each school year.

Our classical curriculum, our atmosphere of collaboration among students, teachers and parents, and our engaging school environment prepare our graduates for success in higher education in any field of study and to be leaders in society. Our students learn how to think effectively, to live morally, and are instilled with the confidence to exercise their gifts in response to that to which God calls them.

The Atonement Catholic Academy's motto is Fides et Ratio. St. John Paul II said that faith and reason are like two wings upon which the soul rises to contemplate the truth. Our students learn how to understand and to employ these two, complementary, inseparable and indispensable modes for pursuing and attaining the truth. They are prepared to respond to errors of our time which can oppose faith and reason, reject the existence of truth, and dismiss absolute moral norms. Atonement graduates can proclaim, defend, and profess the Catholic faith in a society which sorely needs their witness.

The Atonement Catholic Academy is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Accreditation Commission, is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and has been placed on the Catholic Education Honor Roll of the Cardinal Newman Society.

Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, copies of academic transcripts, and a letter of application. Please be advised that unofficial copies are permitted at this stage of the application process. However, official transcript copies for verification will be required prior to contract offer.

The letter of application will include:
a statement of the applicant's philosophy of education;
vision of how this philosophy should be implemented in a classical Catholic school; and
a discussion of what makes Catholic education unique.

The application package will be submitted to: Dr. John Quary, Superintendent of Schools, Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, P.O. Box 55206 Houston, TX 77255. Application packages may also be submitted to Dr. Quary's email: john.quary@ordinariate.net.

About the Employer

The primary mission of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter is evangelization.

The Ordinariate exists for those who are and who will be coming into full communion with the Catholic Church. Through the reverence and beauty of our worship, study of sacred Scripture and charity for those in need, we desire to share the joy of being Roman Catholic!

Our mission is particularly experienced in our celebration of liturgy, which features Anglican traditions of worship while conforming to Catholic doctrinal, sacramental and liturgical standards. Through Divine Worship: The Missal - the liturgy that unites the Ordinariates throughout the English-speaking world - we share our distinctive commitment to praising God in the eloquence of the Anglican liturgical patrimony and Prayer Book English.
