Job Description
This is a full-time ministry position responsible for leading Adult Evangelization, Adult Faith Formation, including to serve as the liaison for the Young Adult Ministry at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, a large and vibrant parish community. The Associate Director reports to and collaborates closely with the Director of Faith Formation in implementing the Pastor's vision for lifelong intentional discipleship and evangelization.The Associate Director is passionate about proclaiming the Gospel in a way that is faithful to Catholic teaching, engaging, and accessible to people at every stage of their faith journey. Under the leadership of the Director of Faith Formation, this position oversees the Evangelical Catholic's Reach More program, including small group leader formation and facilitation training; directs the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA); develops and implements a comprehensive adult faith formation approach that includes parish-wide missions, Bible studies, speaker events, small groups, and other opportunities for spiritual growth and intentional discipleship. This position requires a flexible work schedule of daytime, Sundays, and occasional evenings and Saturdays.
The Associate Director recruits, forms, and supports catechists, volunteers, and parish leaders, helping to cultivate a culture of evangelization and ongoing faith formation that invites all parishioners to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and active participation in the life of the Church.
Key responsibilities
In addition to the responsibilities mentioned in the above description, the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Formation will be responsible for the following duties:
Evangelization
Partner with and serve as the primary point of contact for the Evangelical Catholic's Reach More program.
Offer initial and ongoing formation and support to small group leaders, through one-on-one mentoring and group settings.
Organize and foster other evangelizing initiatives as assigned by the Pastor
Establish an evangelical culture by apostolate.
Recruit and train volunteer parishioners to lead evangelical outreach.
Act as liaison for the Young Adult Ministry to support programs that engage young adults, fostering opportunities for faith formation, fellowship, service, leadership development, and integration into the broader life and mission of the parish.
OCIA
Direct the OCIA process, including the performance of administrative responsibilities.
Manage and train the volunteer catechist staff, hospitality team, and sponsors.
Conduct initial consultations with individuals inquiring about the process to become Catholic.
Collaborate with the parish's Office of Music and Liturgy on dates for the various Rites.
Catechesis
Provide or facilitate ongoing catechesis and training for the catechists, e.g., offering a series of catechist development workshops (3-4 times/year).
Invite visiting speakers to impart engaging and robust talks, courses, etc.
Coordinate parish-wide missions, specifically for the Advent and Lenten seasons.
Collaborate with the Hispanic Faith Formation team to coordinate cross-cultural experiences among the adult communities.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree or certificate in theology, Religious Studies, Catechetics, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field required.
Minimum of three to five years of experience in parish ministry, evangelization, catechesis, adult faith formation, or a related field.
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a thorough knowledge of and commitment to the teachings, traditions, and sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
Demonstrated passion for evangelization and forming intentional disciples, with the ability to communicate the Catholic faith in a faithful, engaging, and compelling manner.
Working knowledge of the OCIA process.
Experience leading and developing adult faith formation initiatives, including small groups, Bible studies, retreats, missions, and formation events for adults at various stages of faith.
Ability to engage and minister effectively to young adults as part of a comprehensive adult faith formation vision.
Experience recruiting, training, mentoring, and supporting volunteers and parish leaders.
Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, parish database systems, and communication platforms.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by parish programming and events.
Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in theology, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field preferred
Familiarity with the Evangelical Catholic Reach More model or other small group discipleship and evangelization programs.
Experience coordinating the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred.
Experience developing strategic plans for parish evangelization and adult discipleship initiatives.
Working Conditions
Much time is spent in an office setting. The employee is required to sit for long periods, to talk, stand, and hear. The employee is also required to spend extended periods of time standing. The employee will often perform light work: lifting, transporting, and/or carrying materials such as learning supplies, books, and lightweight furniture. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements
While this position normally works a 40-hour week, there are times throughout the year when activities planned will require additional work time. In addition, the employee will often be required to work weekends. At these times, it is expected that the remaining work week will be flexed to keep total hours as close to the 40-hour requirement as possible.
