About Monsignor Scanlan High School

Monsignor Scanlan High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory school in the Bronx dedicated to educating young men and women in an environment rooted in faith, academic excellence, leadership, and service. We are seeking a visionary, relationship-driven Director of Development to lead the school's advancement program and build a sustainable culture of philanthropy that strengthens Scanlan's future.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Chairman the Board of Trustees and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Development serves as the school's chief advancement officer and is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that advances the school's long-term priorities. The Director leads all aspects of philanthropy, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, grants, donor stewardship, and campaign strategy while cultivating meaningful relationships with alumni, parents, foundations, corporations, and community leaders.

The Director provides leadership and supervision for the Development Office, managing Development and Alumni staff to ensure the effective execution of fundraising operations, alumni engagement, communications, and special events.

Key Responsibilities

Advancement Leadership

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the school's priorities.
Lead annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and capital fundraising initiatives.
Establish fundraising goals, monitor progress, and evaluate results.
Supervise and mentor advancement staff and manage the Development Office budget.

Donor & Board Relations

Build and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects.
Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees and Development Committee.
Partner with the Principal and Board to advance fundraising priorities and support trustees in donor engagement.

Advancement Operations

Oversee donor stewardship, database management, fundraising reporting, and grant proposals.
Provide strategic oversight of alumni engagement and fundraising events, delegating day-to-day planning to staff.
Collaborate with school leadership to advance institutional priorities.

Qualifications

Required
Bachelor's degree.
Five or more years of fundraising or advancement experience with demonstrated success in major gifts.
Experience supervising staff.
Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Experience with donor databases (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge preferred).

Preferred
Experience in Catholic education, independent schools, or higher education.
Grant writing and campaign experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Starting at $75,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience.
