Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Media & Communications Minister

DEPARTMENT: Parish Christian Living
REPORTS TO: Director of Parish Christian Living
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
HOURS PER WEEK: 30-40
WEEKEND/EVENINGS: Regularly, schedule approved by supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Media & Communications Minister ("MCM") is the Pastor's primary assistant responsible for utilizing digital, social, and print media and technology to effectively communicate Jesus Christ's Good News and Mission, and help to deepen relationships with Him. This includes communication of parish life and opportunities for prayer, works of mercy and fellowship to parishioners and our neighbors. As well, the MCM is responsible for receiving and organizing information from outside communities to share with the Pastor and the Parish.

The MCM cooperates with other Parish leaders, fostering and upholding a team environment that upholds Catholic virtues, to live out the mission "to know Jesus and make Him known."

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Parish media approvals
Coordinates design and production of Parish marketing materials.
Receives and organizes all Parish media requests (for individual ministries/prayer groups, etc.)
Approve designs for all Parish communication outlets: video announcements, bulletin, website, parish wide emails, social media, Church & outside screens, bulletin boards, merchandise, and any printed flyers or signage for the parish or specific ministries.

Social Media
Responsible for the Parish website and Parish accounts on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and any emerging platforms (with prior approval of Pastor).
Produce and manage content; ensure it is updated regularly.
Monitor comments and questions; respond as necessary.
Manage interaction with other social media accounts (eg. Diocese of Phoenix, etc.)

Bulletin
Produce weekly bulletin for review and approval by Pastor.
Manage all bulletin requests.
Collaborate with all Parish leaders to ensure effective communication via the bulletin.
Collaborate with the Fundraiser to solicit advertising and patrons.

Photography/Videography
Taking photos/videos of Parish ministries and events for the use of social media and website.
Engage and manage hired photographers/videographers for Parish events.
Produce, film, and edit weekly Mass Announcements Video and SJV News
Communicate with staff members, parishioners, or guests to film each week

Designs
Design and/or assist Parish leaders for all Parish related graphic / audio / video content (e.g. posters, bulletin announcement infographics, merchandise, "swag", etc.)
Engage and manage third party media services.

Communications Liaison
Receive information from the Diocese of Phoenix and Holy Cross United States Province and coordinate on shared projects / initiatives.
Receive and organize communications from other Catholic parishes, external ministries (e.g. Catholic Charities, etc.), municipal governments, professional groups and any other non-political external entity with relevant information for our parishioners to advance Jesus' Mission.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Fluency in fundamentals of Catholic theology
Social media platforms and associated best practices / regulations
Google suite applications
Editing/design software (Canva, Creative Cloud, etc) / Video/photo editing
Fluency in English and basic Spanish is required. Fully bilingual is preferred.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, IDENTITY

Believing and practicing disciple of Jesus Christ in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
Committed member of St. John Vianney Parish (preferred).
Must pass all required background checks and adhere to the Safe Environment Policies of the Diocese of Phoenix.
High School Diploma or equivalent. University/college degree preferred.
Comparable experience in media management & design preferred.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and organize work efficiently.
Self-starter with ability to execute responsibilities effectively with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with all departments, church groups, employees, volunteers, and parishioners.
Possess a valid AZ Driver's license.

These qualifications are bona fide occupational requirements for the position due to the ministerial and religious nature of the workplace environment.
