Job Description
Part-time, UnbenefitedFlexible during weekdays to attend meetings, sacred music selection and preparation for weddings and funerals, evening choir/cantor practices, and other duties as needed. Weekends required for providing sacred music during the 5pm Mass on Saturday and the 8:30am, 10am and 11:30am Masses on Sunday.
I. Duties & Responsibilities:
• Plan and provide sacred music for four (4) weekend Masses
• Coordinate regular participation of choirs and/or cantors at weekend Masses
• Plan and execute weekly adult and teen choir practices
• Evaluate and discern continued participation of cantors on the basis of reverence and quality.
• Coordinate musicians to provide music at all over-flow Masses for Easter and Christmas
• Coordinate additional musicians (e.g. orchestral strings, brass, etc.) as needed
• Plan and provide music for yearly Masses for First Holy Communion in collaboration with the Pastor and Staff
• Plan and provide music for yearly Masses for Confirmation in collaboration with the Pastor and Staff
• In consultation with the family, select and provide sacred music for all funeral Masses as scheduled
• In consultation with the couple, select and provide sacred music for all weddings as scheduled
• Attend meetings as needed
• Maintains an organized sacred music library, and workspace
• Maintains and coordinates repairs for all parish instruments
Other Duties as assigned by the Pastor.
III. Education/Qualifications:
• Experience in organ, piano, and vocal skills is highly preferred.
• A college degree in music, music performance or a related field preferred
• Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills for written communications and verbal interactions with staff, parishioners, volunteers, and guest musicians
• Ability to learn and adhere to office procedures
• Ability to take initiate and follow directions
• Demonstrate a knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office products
• Must support the mission, philosophy, objectives and policies of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Joliet
