The Retreat Coordinator and LIFE Team Moderator leads student retreat programs, spiritual formation opportunities, and campus ministry leadership initiatives in support of the Catholic and Franciscan mission of St. Francis High School. Reporting to the Director of Franciscan Mission and Ministry, this position coordinates retreats, moderates the LIFE Team student leadership program, supports school-wide service initiatives, and fosters opportunities for prayer, faith development, brotherhood, and service.
This role also includes teaching up to two Religious Studies courses and collaborating closely with faculty, staff, students, and families to support the spiritual growth and development of young men in the Capuchin Franciscan tradition.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinate and facilitate student retreats including "Day with Francis," "Soar," "Emmaus," and other faith formation programs.
• Moderate and mentor the LIFE Team student leadership ministry program.
• Support liturgies, prayer services, sacramental experiences, and campus ministry activities.
• Organize and oversee school-wide service projects, outreach initiatives, and mission-centered events.
• Foster student leadership, spiritual growth, and community engagement consistent with Franciscan values.
• Teach up to two Religious Studies courses in alignment with department curriculum and Catholic teachings.
• Maintain positive classroom management, student engagement, and instructional continuity.
• Collaborate with the Religion Department, Franciscan Mission and Ministry Office, faculty, and administration.
• Participate in school activities including Open House, Back-to-School Night, retreats, supervision duties, and community events.
• Utilize educational technology platforms including Google Workspace, Blackbaud, and related instructional tools.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with all school safety and mandated reporting requirements.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum three years of experience in Catholic ministry, youth ministry, campus ministry, or religious education preferred.
• High school Religion teaching experience preferred.
• California Teaching Credential preferred.
• Catechetical Certification preferred or willingness to complete certification requirements.
• Successful completion of background check, VIRTUS training, mandated reporter obligations, and SB 848 student safety compliance requirements.
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong understanding of Catholic teachings and Franciscan spirituality.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to engage and mentor high-school students in faith formation and leadership development.
• Strong event planning, collaboration, and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and educational technology platforms.
• Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and student-centered ministry leadership.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Regularly stand or sit for extended periods and move between classrooms, retreat locations, and event spaces. Frequently walk on stairs or uneven terrain and occasionally lift objects up to 20 pounds related to retreat or event setup. Evening and occasional weekend work may be required for retreats, liturgies, and school events.
