Barista/Shift Lead

Position Overview

We are seeking warm, dependable, and community-minded Baristas to join the opening team of Cafe Domini, a new cafe located on the grounds of St Dominic Parish, a Roman Catholic Church in Brick, NJ. This cafe is being created as a welcoming gathering space for parishioners, neighbors, families, and visitors. Cafe Domini is a place where hospitality, conversation, and excellent coffee will come together.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve espresso drinks, coffee, tea, and other menu items consistently
- Provide friendly, attentive customer service to all guests
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the cafe
- Operate POS system and handle transactions accurately
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Restock supplies and support inventory organization
- Adapt to changing needs during the cafe launch and early operations

Barista Qualifications
- Open to a prayerful, faithful, Catholic work environment
- Previous cafe, barista, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred, but not required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and take initiative
- Flexibility and openness to evolving procedures during the cafe opening process
- Appreciation for community-centered hospitality
**Availability for weekends and/or early mornings preferred

Preferred Qualifications for Shift Lead
- Comfortable working in a religious environment
- Prior leadership or key holder experience in a cafe, restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Dependable, proactive, and comfortable taking initiative

As part of an opening team, this role will require flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative spirit. We are looking for individuals who are excited not only to serve customers, but also to help shape the culture, workflow, and experience of a brand-new cafe from the ground up.

HOURS
- We're still figuring that out! Right now we plan on being open from approximately 7am to 4pm on weekdays and 7:30-4 on weekends with occasional late night events.
- We are open to working with students, parents, and people with all kinds of schedules

PAY
- Pay is comparable to similar coffee shop operations. Barista wage starts around $16 an hour, and shift lead wage starts at $18, but may be higher depending on experience.
