Job Description
ORGANISTSaint Ann Catholic Church seeks qualified candidates for a part-time organist.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated organist. The organist should also be able to work with various accompanists to enhance musical pieces as needed. To be successful as an Organist, you should be creative, flexible, and passionate about music. The Organist is generally on duty during weekend Masses. The organist works with the Sacred Music Director to assist with weekly choir practice and has the ability to be present for weddings, funerals and special events.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Playing the musical portions of the service and accompanying and/or conducting the
choir(s)
• Selecting music as needed, and learning, practicing, and/or reviewing it for effectiveness
• Selecting, planning, and practicing hymn accompaniments and appropriate settings for
sections of the service
• Learning and adapting choir accompaniments for the organ
• Attending choral rehearsals, rehearsing with other musicians or soloists, and preparing for all such rehearsals
• In conjunction with the Sacred Music Director, select new organ compositions to meet the special and changing needs of the services
• Notify Sacred Music Director and church office administrative assistant regarding maintenance needs of the organ and other musical instruments
• Collaborating with the Sacred Music Director to establish proper balance of all sound sources to
ensure helpful and effective musical leadership in worship
• Willingness to practice organ regularly and maintain/increase playing ability
• Be open to participate and be involved in professional organist association(s)
• Arranging for substitutes during times of absence
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree preferred; 2-3 years minimum experience as Organist preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Sound musical knowledge
• The ability to interpret various styles of music
• Excellent organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills
• A passion for music
• Patient, creative, and assertive
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must pass a pre-employment background check and successfully complete Parish Safe Environment program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Ability to walk up stairs
• Lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 20 pounds
