Assistant or Associate Professor of English

Job Description

The English Language and Literature Department of Christendom College invites applications for a full-time position as an Assistant or Associate Professor, to be determined by qualifications, beginning August 15, 2027. While preference may be shown for applicants with a scholarly focus on modern British and/or American literature, we seek a candidate who can teach any of the literature courses in the core curriculum, which examines literature from Homer and Virgil to Dostoevsky and Flannery O'Connor. While preference may be shown for applicants who hold the Ph.D., we will also consider Ph.D. candidates who can demonstrate teaching excellence.

The teaching load is four courses per semester, but the successful candidate, when pursuing scholarship, may be eligible for a reduced load, subject to approval by the VPAA. The candidate should be strongly committed to undergraduate teaching and eager to join a community that is guided by the complementary lights of faith and reason. In accordance with the Apostolic Constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae, all faculty of the College annually profess an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium before the local Ordinary as a voluntary act.

Applicants should provide: (1) current curriculum vitae; (2) a letter of application that includes a statement of how the candidate will contribute to the Mission of Christendom College; (3) all graduate and undergraduate transcripts; (4) a sample of the candidate's scholarly writing; and (5) three letters of recommendation which attest to the candidate's scholarship, teaching ability, and character.
